Probably only current TT selling above MSRP (albeit not by much). If you don’t love it then I’d pass on it. However if you do like, get it, and if you still want a sub you should be able to trade it for one quite easily.

Even for the root beer? From what I can see from vintage root beers, they appreciated. And the current root bear fetches a premium versus mrsp.

I'm not looking to flip or sell this, it's my first Rolex. I'll be looking to hand it down to the kids one day. But it would be nice to know it didn't lose value. Would be nice to know I'm handing them something rarer and special.

It won’t be special because it’s rare (it’s not - Rolex produces 1 million+ watches per year). It’s special because it would be coming from you, after accumulating a lifetime of wear and memories with it, which your kids will identify as yours. If you are keeping it for life and handing it down, then why would you include it’s value retention at all in the decision?

If you have the chance to try on both watches, you will know. I thought I wanted a DSSD. Tried it on and then slid on a no date sub....I walked out with the sub.

That's a very helpful perspective. I have tried on my friends sub date and didn't really feel anything, definitely not like the feeling I got when I put on the root beer.

you answered your question ....buy the root beer.

why in the world would you buy a $10k watch if it didn't do anything for you? just because its recognized as a Rolex? You can do that with a cheap $100 knock off it your goal is just to show people you have a Rolex.

Like others have said, only buy it if you like it. Otherwise it’s a waste.

OP: I was in the exact same position you are now. I wanted a sub and the AD called me for CHNR. I said, I will take a look but I will decline. Went there, loved it and never turned back. Like everyone suggested, if it sings, get it. This is not going to be your only watch. Good luck!

I agree. I find the TT CHNR the most sporty of all with its contrast.
For dressier sport watch, I’d go full Everose GMT Master myself and save up.

‘Recognition/Flex Factor’

This has to be a troll post.

If not, no offense but I highly doubt you’re in this ‘for the long run’ if that’s the type of logic you’re using to purchase a watch. You’ll be selling when they’re no longer hot on Instagram.

I walked into my local AD just before Christmas and a Root Beer was right there in the display case.

Sorry, no they are not in high demand like a sub. Beautiful watches in their own right, just not iconic.

Wait. See if you still want it in a week, or a month. There's no hurry.

Gives the illusion you’re cool to your 16-25 year old friends, even if mom/dad are the ones who paid for it. I say that as a 29 year old, with most people I know utilizing this term, not even having a job and usually complaining how hard their life is. But usually very active on Instagram snapping pics of $8 lattes, $25 food dishes and designer goods (again, obviously not bought with their own money).

OP could be none of this, just my general interpretation from personal experience.

I'm just a guy looking for help. If you don't have anything constructive to say, please don't say anything. Don't prove the stereotype about watch enthusiasts being snobby to be true. Thanks

Again, I clearly mentioned you could be none of those and was in no way trying to be snobby. If anything you’re lending a hand to that stereotype though, as you literally said you want to buy a watch to try and ‘flex’ on other people and look better than them?

Anyhow good luck

Thank you. I'm going to go in tomorrow and try it on again and see if I have the same reaction now that I'm better prepared and have the same reaction. If it "sings" to me, I'll pull the trigger.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Your reaction to the people who are telling you not to get the watch suggests to me that you really want the watch. So buy it!

On big decisions, I flip a coin, in part to test what I'm really rooting for when it's in the air. You came to this forum, presented both sides, and seem to be partial to one and not the other, so that tells you which choice to make. Get it and enjoy it!

P.S. I love the CHNR. It's one of the watches I don't yet have that I really want. So +1 to that too.

I have a CHNR and I love it. Yes, it costs more because of the gold. I don’t think the other three questions should factor in your decision at all. Why does it matter which one is harder to get? But if you want an opinion then I think that either one is equally easy to get. Relatively speaking. As far as flex or hype, I would say they are equally cool on the hype meter.
The only factor that I think you should consider is wearability of a two tone vs brushed stainless. You might find the Sub easier to wear because it’s more simple, but keep in mind the sub will never be as dressy as the CHNR. Good luck with your decision. You can’t go wrong either way.

CHNR is a pretty watch. Would I wear it fresh to a new job? Probably not. Reality is something like a SS Sub, Daytona, Pepsi, Hulk will all fly under radar to the general public. A two-tone Rolex will not. I have have pieces like the SS Daytona and also the two tone sub and there’s no doubt more eyes are on the TT sub.

That said, maybe the move is a CHNR for weekend duty, and that purchase history gets you a SS piece for everyday.

+1. Your original post also said you loved the CHNR. It’s a done deal.

Practical approach is buy the CHNR now, when the sub magically comes in which it will after buying this, then see them side by side to de doubly sure.

I think based upon your post, you will appreciate the long term uniqueness of this watch, even if it doesn’t gain value as opposed to the sea of subs out there.

It’s not about watch enthusiasts being snobs. It’s about men having the fortitude to make their own decisions. My advice, don’t buy a Rolex. You’re not ready

“However, I kind of fell in love with a watch“ This is the only thing that matters.

1) No
2) It’s got gold, its going to cost more.
3) Doubtful. TT’s do not hold value like SS’s do.
4) No.
