Deepsea not the deepest
Are the Deepsea owners here dissappointed that the DSSD is no longer the the best for WR? With the new Montres Charmex CX at 20,000 ft the Deepsea is way behind. I know they're all overkill etc etc but from an engineering point of view they're all pretty cool.

My Bell & Ross Hydromax is rated for 11,200 meters or 36,000 feet (6.8 miles) but I rarely dive that deep :)

I seem to remember in the early 90's there was an obsession with watch manufacturers trying to out do each other on depth rating with quartz watches. It seems pointless as the depths are unattainable by humans. I'll accept an addition to the depth ratings to add a saftey margin to the watch tolerance but I think it both ludicrous and pointless to go hundreds of metres beyond this.

love the DSSD....it doesn't matter that it's not the deepest. i won't make it that deep anyways but it's very cool that the Montres can do so. a marvelous technology.

Nah...it doesn't bother me a bit seeing as I didn't buy the DS for 'bragging rights' wrt depth rating. A Sub is overkill IMO, so the DS takes overkill to a whole other level. Unless I'm mistaken, it does appear that this is a fully automatic watch (ETA 7750 movement) and NOT oil filled, so yes, it looks like it beats the DS when you're talking deepest 'dry' automatic mechanical watch.
But, I'm not a big fan of the looks of the watch (the colors, dial & bezel seem to be all over the place) and I've never been a fan of Ti watches. We can argue about the mechanical merits of a watch all day long...but in the end we all know that 99% of the reason we buy a watch is because of its looks. I think the DS blows this watch out of the water in the looks dept and that's all I really care about. I've seen plenty of watches that are worth anywhere from 3-50X more than the DS that I wouldn't be caught dead in...they just don't do it for me. Even though this watch isn't in that price range, the looks are and therefore it's not a big draw for me. P.S. Side note...anyone that knocks a Seamaster needs to have their head examined IMO...there is no denying its amazing merits at a fraction of the price of a Rolex - period. |

I wonder if I can get my money $$ back for my Deep Sea - on the grounds of false advertising!!

Boo hoo......
I have a watch that is waterproof to 12,800 feet; but now there's another one that goes much deeper than mine. My life has come to complete standstill!!

I did. I know you were joking, my comment was in general regarding Omega because believe it or not many feel as you were joking about & that always annoys me. Then again, I guess this isn't the thread to bring up those thoughts. Cheers.

Speaking of deep (well, ridiculuosly deep) diving watches, the MTM Black Seal divers watch is completely water proof. It's water resistant to a depth of (I beleive) 39,000 feet ! However, the case is filled with silicone oil, and is a quartz movement. The watch retails for $1700. The watch can be ordered in both black (dial is carbon fiber), and SS.
I don't think I'd want to spend that kind of coin on a watch just to take a bath with, knowing it will go 1,000,000,000,000 times deeper lol |

It's not a Rolex.
I rather have the DSSD. Not even going to bother to find out what brand that is. |
