How much watches of each Model?

Hi everybody!

Has anyone some information or suggestions about how much watches of each model the ADs circa get per year? I think it depends on how big the store is and how much watches they sell but what’s the approximate number?

Fair question. You are in a Germany. WEMPE is one of Rolex’s biggest dealers. Ask them. See what they tell you.

I’d love to know but I don’t believe they ever publish the unit numbers,

You can get close by estimating based on the yearly financials but you need a good understanding of which models sell and how that differs by region,

Afraid only Rolex themselves would know that, any others would be pure speculation. At one time Rolex used to make about 1000000 units a year, now around 850000 units. And would expect the highest volume sellers world wide would be the DJ range, next the sports range.

I've heard dealers themselves don't know what watches will come in. Rolex disburses them Wonka style, where stuff like a Hulk is a golden ticket no one knows when will come.

I imagine certain dealers get favored just like certain customers. So the favoritism game is top down all the way I suspect.

No idea, but I have heard for the Daytona they might only get 3 white or black SS in all year.

No one here with a very good relationship with an AD or even a salesperson?
That would be interesting!

No accurate answer to that. Every AD is a different size in a different city with a different market. There are stores that get bi-weekly deliveries because they sell so much.

Hey there!

Okay but are we talking about let’s say 5 Daytonas and 3 Sky-Dweller, 12 Subs, 20 DJ, etc. per month or more like per year? Or significantly more?

I have really no idea...

AD is certainly not going to tell their customers how many of what they get. Information asymmetry is how they play their game.

There’s no benefit to the AD from sharing such information.

Based on some of the data I have accummulated just by chit chatting with local ADs in Vancouver (which is a Mecca for watches due to being a tourist city and large affluent Asian population) they get models like Explorers 4/5 times a year. Submariners and GMTs around 20 each (but they have potential 1000 buyers for each model). Pepsi and Hulk trickle to one every few months. Not sure about Daytonas as they never interested me and historically have been difficult to collect (even before the Rolex madness started).

Again, I believe this varies by how large the dealer is. Big guys in Dubai or HK might be getting signifcantly more but they move a ton of PM pieces as well.

Having said that everytime I have been our local boutique which is the biggest in North America, I usually see 2 or 3 PM buyers forking out their cash so there is no shortage of them here either.

Hmm. It's simple math. In any 12 month period (ignoring covid) rolex manufactures approximately 1 million watches. There are roughly 2000 ad's world wide so if every ad got the same number then they would each get 500 watches per year. However we know that some get less and some get more. However 500 is the average and therefore a good figure to work off which means 42 per month. I suppose it's anyone's guess how that might be broken down per model but I'm not sure only 1 or 2 Daytona's per year is accurate unless they are talking specific models in the range.

For example I heard that ADs only get one (1!!) Sky-Dweller blue dial per year... Even if a huge AD gets 4 per year that sounds so less and unbelievable
