How was this? Much peat or more of a smokey finish? I'm intrigued by this one.

You should insult him. $2900 is hardly a friendly price. Even at $1900, that still would be pretty much secondary pricing for the set.

Icon20 WhistlePig's annual Boss Hog release

What it is: WhistlePig's annual Boss Hog release is here, and this time you're looking at The Boss Hog VII: Magellan's Atlantic, a 17-year-old rye whiskey finished in Spanish oak and South American teakwood.

Why we want it: That's an old rye, and Boss Hog has never steered us wrong before. Expect notes of spice, toasted oak, vanilla, dark chocolate, roasted almonds and coffee.

It's spectacular, starts of with fruity, pinot noir and finishes like a classic Ardbeg, smoky.

Not sure what price these go for as I got mine as a gift, but if it's 150-200€ I'd say it's definitely worth it.

Its a peat bomb but very smooth, with cinnamon hints.. The regular version is good, but not as good as the Comm Release (pictured)!

Runs about $120 here (100€). I'm not a big peat fan. I can enjoy a little smoke but not looking for a monster, per se.

For €100 I'd get it for sure!

[QUOTE=imperio;7919720]I haven't been able to find a thread on whisky (there's one for wine), and surely there're some whisky lovers here!? Possibly even a Keeper of the Quaich??

Share your choice of drink (bourbon, scotch, irish, japanese, rye etc.) and maybe a description of how it tastes to you. Enable someone to go out and try it too!

I'll start.

My go to is Lagavulin 16, single malt scotch. The peaty aroma got me at first whiff. I remember thinking this smelt like smoked salmon! It's subtly sweet and slightly spicy. Perfect pre or post meal. Very different to other scotch whiskies. Price-wise, a 750ml bottle can be picked up for about $50-$70 at your local Costco. Not something that will break the bank for sure; try it if you haven't!

great thread!

bourbon - oaky/nutty/sweet

Stranahans colorado whiskey is a phenomenal brown drink as well with the best qualities of both Scotch and Bourbon. and not too expensive (seen it for $45-$65 for a 750mL)... try it!

Enjoyable. Flavor is much lighter than the color. Probably. Better for mixing than drinking neat or on the rocks if I’m being honest.

Gentleman, there are some fantastic bottles here.

I’ve just picked up a bottle of Jefferson’s Ocean, voyage 17 - a pleasant 80 degree and clear sky voyage of the pacific rim. Never tried Jefferson’s Ocean before but of course have heard about it and been meaning to try for a long time. Has anyone here tried it already? Any thoughts/tasting suggestions? I’m normally a Blantons or Michters man, so this bottle will be a nice treat to tap into on special occasions.

It depends on the year of the WLW but yeah that's at the top of secondary pricing unless its a really old WLW

one resource for pricing:

I agree with Dak. Just not much to it and there are far better pours for less money.

Wow! The Birthday Bourbon is on my bucket list! Extremely difficult to obtain is an understatement. Would love to have a bottle of 2019 and 2020, the birth years of my two kiddos.
