Forced to choose Datejust over Day-Date unfortunately!! :(

I cannot seem to find a Day-Date 36mm with luminous sticks without a chapter ring. I do very much want a watch with luminous sticks, so the closest thing I can get without the chapter ring is a 36MM datejust.

Have you ever had to pass on a certain model because of a "deal breaker" like the chapter ring is to me?

Yes, of course. Wanting a specific dial is common, and I’ve done it before as well. I personally love Romans fwiw. However, I have never heard of someone going from a DD to a DJ because of chapter rings, or any other reason. Pretty large difference in reference there. However to each their own reference and I wish you well finding yours!

A chapter ring is a useful timing element and therefore I personally would never consider it a deal breaker.

I do understand that certain aspects of a watch can be a turnoff like the cyclops or date function.

If it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work. Doesn't matter what anyone else would do.

I'm also very picky. Compromise tends to lead to more expense and wastage in the long run. If I was in the market for a DD or another PM piece, it would probably be my top watch. The one to rule the collection and maybe one day replace it. It would have to suit my needs/wants perfectly.

No. Hope I don’t ever have to.

A chapter ring wouldn’t be a dealbreaker to me.

If you forced yourself to choose DateJust over Day-Date because of certain criteria, eventually you will not be happy. Don't settle for less, it's better not to get it at all.

For myself....deal breakers usually relate to size or color

Did you ever put it on your wrist or looking at pictures online? My chapter ring is barely noticeable. I use it to set the time, but it never interferes with the overall aesthetics. Once you go DD.... you will stay away from a DJ imo. That watch will make you all fuzzy inside haha. Remember..... watches always look different in person than with these zoomed in shots. The chapter ring is done just enough to let you know its there, but not overpowering. Motif dials will take the center of attention. In my experience, this pic gives it a nice sky blue color. However, wearing it.... its more silver to light blue... only certain lighting gives it this hue.

I wanted a Day Date with a black dial in 36mm white gold but they only do certain dials in 36mm

Rolex lume is pretty over-rated (speaking as someone who'd only buy watches with lume in the past). I almost find the requirement for "good" lume on a Rolex laughable as it has momentary brightness and fades to almost nothing by the time I'm ready to use it. I guess we all need to experience the heart break of bad lume for ourselves.
