4100ST with replacement dial
Good afternoon Gents.
After much deliberation, have pretty much narrowed down my next purchase to be a vintage 4100 RO in SS. Came across this example which looks to fall well within my budget and appears to come with good provenance. https://www.chrono24.hk/audemarspigu...id18434581.htm Theres's 2 things bothering me about this, so would welcome your valued opinions. The watch has been serviced in 2019, which would normally be a good thing. However, the service has been done by Wempe and not AP themselves. Secondly, it appears the original dial has been changed during this service. The original dial does seem to be included, and to be honest I'm not a big fan of Tropical or Patina dials so a nice clean dial appeals to me. I'm assuming Wempe would've only put an original AP dial, so would it really make a big difference to the value? Though this would be the 3rd RO in my collection, the plan would be for it to remain the only remaining one so resale isnt really a consideration but value retention/appreciation still is. Opinions please Gentlemen?

4100ST with replacement dial
I would go for it. The case and bracelet has been nicely polished.
Also if the original dial is included the price is good. They accept price offers so I would propose 1000 less and see what they answer. Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk

It looks very gorgeous, it is in very good condition.
If the original dial was included, it should be OK to me.

Thanks for your opinions gents. Just to complicate matters a little further, if it was a choice between this model or a white dial 14790...which one would you go for?

I would take the 4100. Looks closer the original Genta design. Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk

You're not wrong about that, the only thing holding me back would be that I already have the very similar 56175 which is also a vintage Genta design, albeit in Quartz and 3mm smaller....

I think 4100 looks more vintage than 14790 third series. 14790 third series was around year 2000+ so it looks more modern. If it is in the same condition, I like the look of 4100 better.
I just bought 14790BA white dial third series, it is harder to find 4100.

Looks to me from the photos that the dial markers and handset are yellow gold and therefore would originally belong to a yellow gold example Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's a very good point, and to be honest I thought it was just the light playing tricks on my eyes but guess that certainly explains why the price is so much lesser than similar examples....Thanks for the heads up

Yes agreed that the dial change if you have original is ok. But the changed hands and markers to gold on SS case is a dealbreaker.
