New boy needs help

Hi all.
My name is Johnny, celebrating 25 years of happy marrige this coming june, living, and when the mood takes me, working in rural spain, and now with the children having flown the nest enjoying the finer things life can give me.Thus the reason for me being here.
An old guy in the village has offered me a watch as part payment for some work on his house. It has rolex oyster perpetual explorer and precision on the dial, I have included a photo the old guy took. On the sides where the strap goes he could see (I couldn't make them out without my glasses) the number 5500 on one side and six numbers 5279 and he thinks 85 on the other side.
Could anyone help me with the following questions.

1) How old would the watch be.
2) Is this the correct strap, it has usa on the clasp.
3) What would be a fair price for the watch

Many thanks for any help or advice. Johnny

According to the Rolex Report, a 5500 case # indicates an explorer or airking. I think what you have is a late 50's airking with an explorer dial. If your serial numbers are correct, 52xxxx is around 1959. I can't tell you much about the bracelet except it is supposed to be smaller than a standard explorer. Maybe one of the true experts can give you info about it.
According to the report, this watch is rumored to have been sold to British military officers in the Far East.

I would put a guestimate value on the watch of something like US$2,000 as it is 34mm and one may have to spend a few $$$ on getting it serviced.

Unable to say if this is the correct bracelet, but if it is an original Rolex bracelet it would be worth around $4-500.
