Is this a fair trade
Hey guys just want to get a few opinions on this. Do you think current Explorer 1 would be a fair trade for a speedy Tuesday Ultraman?

It would be in my market. I like the Ultraman and have owned it before and regret letting it go.

personally I was underwhelmed by the Explorer and love my Speedmaster. The Ultraman is a great version. I would do it.

IMO it's not a good trade.... I'd rather have either of those speedies vs a modern explorer.

Slightly tilted in your favor based off of C24 prices for brand new unworn right now. You may want to wait a week to see what Rolex does with the Explorer. If it gets discontinued, your watch could be worth more.

Equal value = equal trade, so yes.

I would go with the Speedy in this case. I mean the explorer is not as iconic as many make out. The explorer (if it was on Everest) looked very different than the current version and yes Fleming wore one, but Bond wore the sub. The explorer is behind the sub and gmt as far as i am concerned regarding the rolex "icon" standing.

I don't spend a ton of time over on the Rolex side of the forum anymore, but I'm shocked to hear the Explorer may be discontinued. I would have to imagine it's just being released with an updated movement. I doubt that would cause the price on older models to increase substantially.
I personally prefer the Ultraman, and think it's a far better long-term investment if that kind of thing is important to you. |

I don’t think it will be discontinued. Upgraded perhaps to the newer movement and a tweak or two. Either way it may certainly increase the value of the previous models simply because that’s what happens. That’s why IMO it’s never smart to trade a Rolex sports model unless it is for an upgrade to another sports Rolex.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm also yet to see an Ultraman in person, I hope it's as good as the photos and wears as well as the Explorer does... time will tell and great idea on waiting for the latest Rolex news drop!

A lot on this trade depends on what you have in your collection and what you want. Do you want a manual winder compared to an auto, do you have other watches for water as you won’t want to get this particularly wet and do you like straps/NATO’s as this has no bracelet (albeit you can buy one). Money wise, I make this near enough a straight trade in today’s environment. Obvs that might change depending on next week. Me, I’d have the speedy here of the two if a straight choice. |

Thanks again guys.. who knew the 39mm Explorer was gonna discontinue like that?! I would've also expected an increase in size opposed to the drop to 36mm.

I would much rather have the speedy. I don't buy watches for investment purposes. But even if you did it's still a fair trade.

I would go for it. I've owned an ST Ultraman since it's debut and enjoy it a lot. You probably won't want to wear it on either of the straps it comes with. I picked up an Omega Speedmaster bracelet for it and it wears great on that, as well as some select straps that look good on it. No doubt the explorer is a classic, but I see a lot of upside to the Ultraman in terms of just being a great, fun, and very enjoyable watch.

Had an Explor 1. Really didn’t do anything after a year or so. Sold it and bought a Sub Date.

The ultraman is a cool omega, the explorer is a lower model Rolex. Keep the ultraman and just buy a Rolex GMT instead. Now you're talkin. Don;t trade
