Rolex Root Beer dial

Hello,
Do you know when Rolex introduced non-nipple dials for Root Beer reference 16753?
I found somewhere information that these new dials were introduced in mid-80-ies. I'm considering a purchase of a Watch with late 6 million case number which dates it to 1980-81. Isn't it too early for a non-nipple dial? The dial is Swiss T<25 type. Could that be a service dial which replaced the original nipple dial?
I attach the picture.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

I am sure others will weigh in but I think all 80-81 17653's were nipple dials

That means that the dial on the picture must be a service dial. Is there any way to distinguish service dials from that period from the original factory ones?

OK I know I'm digging up an old topic here.

How much value would there be lost from not havin the original nipple dial.. Because I'm on the hunt for a 17653 early 80s, and I think I wouldn't mind paying less to have this more pleasing dial (for me).

You would definitely get more responses in the Vintage section. Although, some might see the 16753 as neo-vintage. Whatever…
