Here’s one you don’t see every day. Picked this up earlier this year on vacation waaaaay up north after tasting it at the distillery. Complicated process here - mix of 7 and 10 year, aged in oak, then ex-bourbon, then sherry, then mixed with a 12 year. At 46% ABV it’s not the boldest, but it’s mature and quite complex with a lean towards the sweet notes. Overall I think it’s fantastic and reminds me of the trip. Photo of the drink, and photo of the glacier water that made it.

I should have bought every bottle they had. I didn't know it was going to be so good. Now we can only get the 31y, 25y, and younger.

Looks delicious. I wish my wife looked at me the way you look at Willett. I hope you’re part owner and we just don’t know it.

Wow 17 years - that is an impressive bourbon. So this would be from their sourced barrels then? Any idea what the source is for this bottle? I'm on the hunt for a celebratory bourbon over the next year, but it must have a 17 year age statement to coincide with a milestone. It's a tough age statement to find, Eagle Rare 17 and Wild Turkey Master's Keep 17 are the two others that I'm aware of with that age statement or which I've heard the Eagle Rare is superior.

I have only ever seen the Willett 4 year rye on shelves at MSRP which I assume is their own distillate, everything else has either been on shelf marked up quite a bit or at auction.

Keep the WL Weller. Saz 18 is good, but really hit or miss, and you really have to like a well aged rye... I haven't had a bad WLW yet.

Yes, sourced. I do know the source. And, it's fantastic stuff.

As for your search for 17yr whiskey.
ER17 seems like a great choice! Or a 17yr WFE. Could also do a 17yr vintage bourbon.

If I were a generous man and my brother liked bourbon, I'd give the WLW.

If my brother wouldn't appreciate/know the difference, I'd give the Saz18.

Better yet - drink half the bottle each, then trade.

Google the Buffalo Trace press release and you can read all about their thoughts on the current market and what they decided to do about it as a business with their Blanton's product, specifically. They were very transparent and touched on everything that's going on.

If you are a product manager for a major corporation and you personally disagree with their decision on how to market their product, please feel free to write, call, or email them with your suggestions. Over at Maker's Mark, Bill Samuels will actually personally respond to you.

They can create more supply (in 6-8 years...) with more rickhouses and juice, but only Warehouse H produces Blanton's... The sad fact is that the quality of Blanton's has gone down hill significantly, where barrels were once pulled in the 8-9 year mark, are now barely making it to 6 years. Watering down a 6 year bourbon to 93 proof and shoving it in a fancy bottle with a cool horsey stopper won't justify the current MSRP of $60 when I can get a bottle of excellent 12 year Knob Creek for $55... Even EH Taylor Small Batch is aged longer (supposedly) and a higher proof, for much, much less ($35-40).

If you are still looking for a bottle of Blanton's and don't care about dates on the label (that'd be the only reason I would buy one these days, if it had my kid's birth date on it), then I'll gladly ship you one for cost. I have several sitting around unopened.

Great insights and points. That really makes a lot of sense. I hadn't thought of that and I'm going to try those alternative suggestions as well! Thank you for your offer, as well. I'm messaging you right now! This is what I love about our TRF board. Everyone is so helpful to each other.

Someone else got into it last night too.

Great story in the link - but the headline is: a private barrel of 19-year Willett Family Estate Bourbon sold for over $400,000!!!
