Patek and Tiffany

Is there a good source to get a better understanding of the relationship past and present for these 2 brands? Thank you for the help.

Tiffany is a jewelry company that sells Patek. Others are Patek dealers that sell jewelry. Tiffany is owned by a huge luxury company, LVMH. The percentage of total sales attributed to Paktek is de minimis for Tiffany.

If you really want to get down in the weeds you could read “A Grand Complication”. It has a lot of info about Patek’s early days and their relationship with Tiffany.

Timing, right after LVMH takeover is very curious. It is an open secret that LVMH wants to take Tiffany upmarket to compete with VCA and Cartier...what better way to do that quickly than to have Patek boutiques in the key markets, and occasional exclusive Patek pieces.

Tiffany opened a store in Geneva a couple of hundred meters from the Patek Salon. They do not sell Patek watches there.

Many LVMH brands have links with Switzerland. I have some friends working in companies producing parts for them. There is now a trend to move the production back to France so they can stamp the final products "Made in France".

LVMH is a conglomerate doing everything in "luxury". They are not pure-players and their strategies are at the opposite spectrum (compared to Patek). LVMH is a public company who is obliged to see everything shorter term. Patek is private and can afford to sacrifice the short term wins and focus on the long term vision.

The last Nautilus is not understood by the PP community but loved by the LVMH fans.
A Patek collaboration with Philippe Dufour would have been stratospheric and would have made any price understandable by the Patek community. :)

About the double stamped, Rene Beyer gave Patek's view and the surprising problem that some customers were/are having (btw superb Amagnetic): https://youtu.be/g5BZzSYN6ug?t=1069

LVMH wanted to buy out Tiffany in 2019, and then suddenly didn't want to after covid hit. Tiffany threatened to sue. Then LVMH realised they were making even more money than before, so they went ahead and went ahead and bought it.

doubt it had anything to do with patek...

Well Google will guide you to a few resources.

I’ve liked this one by because he provides some nice examples of collaboration, including the latest Ref. 5711/1A-018…

But Tiffany also has their own briefer version…

I was saying that the release of the Tiffany Blue 5711 may be a sign of a stronger future collaboration with Patek...not that Patek had something to do with the merger.

Although the new owners want to take Tiffany more upscale I would not be surprised if they drop PP from Tiffanys making pieces with the Tiffany dial more valuable. I sense that the new owners want to have unique, upscale pieces to sell, PP is not unique.

You think, as far as I can see from being a Tiffany customer for more than 30 years the brand has been going ever down market and cheapening the brands appeal. Perhaps things will be different now but somehow doubt it.
