I suspect you'd pay roughly $1500-$2k, more or less, at an RSC for a service and service parts. The bracelet would be extra, and I don't know what Rolex charges for a bracelet (or why you'd need one), but I suppose you can find out pretty easily. Maybe another $1500 (just a guess). Or you could have that C&I restored for about $600 the last time I checked. If you want the case restored, you will need to add in another $700 or so.

As for finding period-correct parts, that is a huge project, and you're on your own. Do some research. Also, an RSC will not install those parts for you.

Or, you could take that $4,000 (after all is said and done, plus taxes) and put it towards a GMT that is ready to go and all correct. Projects are almost always like renovating a house: takes twice as long and costs twice as much.

I agree 100%. This is the type of watch I'd only buy at a thrift store price. There would have to be enough upside to make the project fun.

So many better options out there if you’re in the market for an old GMT.
I agree i have decided to walk away. I do enjoy the hunt of finding watches and in this case period correct parts but would want a desirable example
and as everyone has stated this would not be that

Thanks for all your input!!!!

I agree, no matter if you go the Rolex route or finding period correct parts and labor, it won’t be worth what you paid and put into it. Save yourself the aggravation spend a little more and get a better one. Just my opinion. It seems you have gotten your answer.

Yeah agree the value of this watch is 1675 mvt c $1500 and if if pukka the case about $2000 - but there is no smoke without fire usually so if the refinished dial etc then usually there is a litany of long tail (other) issues in their wake !
