My Sub was in the plastic "coffin". That was last May. Perhaps it had been sitting in their safe for a while or the cardboard box isn't yet adopted universally...

Regardless, you don’t get this or the plastic coffin or styrofoam, so why are we talking about this?

My Green sub came in the same box.

I asked the AD for the box and unfortunately they wouldn’t let me keep it :-(.

Btw: The AD didn’t let me keep any of the other ones. I guess company policy.

I've had quite a bunch of the 'old' plastic coffins and they have been proven golden for traveling with just one or two watches. Throw them in your carry on without a second thought. Very space efficient and 100% protective.

💯 correct. Patek has been doing this for years….

I would have thought the most important bit is the watch and not whatever the packaging is made from.

Is this how a rolex is presented from factory to dealer or from dealer to customer? I hope the first...

"Cardboard Coffin???"

When I saw this thread title I thought it was another discussion on the impact of the collapsing secondary market!

UK perspective. In June 2020 my AD offered me a BLNR from a plastic coffin. I declined and bought a TT Sky Dweller. It came in the cardboard box. From this, my guess is that we were switching over from mid 20 to some time in 21 in the UK. Next two Rolex watches from AD in October 2021 and June 22 came in cardboard. Some older stock is probably lurking in some vaults.

Plastic ones they simply crush and throw away. That has been my experience so far...

OK! But the important thing is the content, not the container.

Part of the generalized loss of taste and aesthetics in everything around us. Logos all the same, boxes all the same, font all the same, industrialized scale of homogenization.

That box is beyond gross.
The earlier green box was horrific, but it had character. This monstrosity is the same box you would get in an Indo flea market buying fake EarPods.

Really tiring and exasperating to see this….

You realize this is how they ship watches to stores? The customer still gets the green box.

Hahaha no. I didn’t realize, apologies . Thank god. I get triggered easily sometimes. They can ship it how they like.

This is how my Subdate was delivered in November of 2017. Kind of cool being the first customer to open it, but the plastic coffin promptly went in closet and haven't taken it out since. Doesn't really matter to me what it's shipped to AD in.

Yes, cardboard coffins with polystyrene protection inside as photographed further up in the thread.
My AD told me this was due to environmental improvements over plastic coffins.

Next everyone will be incensed they were denied the “official” Rolex rubber band used to keep the coffin and booklets together…

Can you imagine how unhinged some people would be if they saw how Lambos, Porches and Aston Martins get shipped to North America!!?? I’m pretty sure the containers aren’t gold plated and sprinkled with Unicorn &$*£.
Then again……

“Coffin” sure seems like a peculiar choice of word to describe the box.

You put things to rest in a coffin at the end of their life, whereas these watches are just coming into the world!

A match for the cheesy green plastic boxes you receive with a new Rolex.

Shhh…don’t tell the guy trying to figure out part numbers for the disposable bezel protectors because he actually thought he needs it to be considered a “full set”!
