At this point in my life walking it off is a much greater challenge. I'm no longer that young kid who joined the Army back in 79. I now have things like arthritis and other old man aches and pains. Had a few accidents myself in the last few years.

Take care, get well soon. I too am trying to not be such a klutz lately.

I guess they saw that we are loyal to the brand (15 cruises with Royal Caribbean) and I was able to provide them with medical documentation. If push came to shove I would have gone and just struggled through it but my wife insisted that since we were only losing a minimal amount that we just reschedule. I guess she didn’t look forward to catering to me.
By the time Sept 4th comes around I probably won’t be completely healed but certainly much better than I would be 9 days from now. And it would be our first cruise in 9 years after taking care of three elderly parents and a sick brother, all of whom have passed (Mom and my brother within the past 6 months). We used to go on two cruises per year until everyone started getting sick and that’s the main reason we haven’t been able to go. I didn’t want anything to stand in the way of enjoying this one to the max.
Came back to see if there was an update, and saw this. I was going to suggest that you ask to reschedule since it would be likely they wouldn't just refund. Glad to see that this is what you've done.

So, between now and then, TAKE IT EASY!

Last time I looked that damn pole was still standing.

Absolutely could have been much much worse. A couple of inches to the left and it would have been head first. Definitely dodged a bullet.

Thanks Steve. I’m usually not into baths unless I’m hurtin’ and this certainly qualifies.

It sucks getting older Dan. Things take longer to heal and not always completely. But it sure beats the alternative.

I will Kathleen. Not much of a choice. Seven weeks from now it should be as good as it’s going to get.

Good morning Steve,
It’s a week today since the injury and I would say there is minimal improvement but that’s to be expected after only 7 days. Being a lefty my main issue is using my right arm to do everyday things.
Thanks for asking.

Wow Ang.. Just saw your post.. and what a bumber.
Holy sheit man, you could effing killed yourself..Geeze ..!!.
Damn it could've been a lot worse for sure and I'm sure you're still hurting.
Injuries of any kind take a lot longer to heal at our ages....Damn.
Glad you were able to rearrange your cruise with RCL. It pays to be a frequent cruiser. This'll give you more time to heal up.
What a shame...
Hope you heal up fast...
Hang in there, Bud...

Hey Thomas,
Thanks for reaching out. It’s definitely more difficult to bounce back when you’re older but I realize how much worse it could have been. I was literally airborne when I hit the pole and was not even able to get my hands down to break the fall. I got lucky.
Royal Caribbean was great. I would have recommended them even before all of this happened and certainly even more so now.
Can’t wait to get on board. Thanks again.

The pole got bloodied but it was my blood.
We’re cruising to Florida, the Bahamas, and RCCL’s private island Coco Cay.

Hi Angelo sorry to hear about your fall! I’m a little late to this party but I was going to suggest trying to sleep in a recliner if you have one (if you haven’t figured out this trick already). I found after a shoulder surgery that also involved my collar bone it was the most comfortable way to get some rest while keeping my arm still. It’s crazy how much your shoulder/collar bone move during daily activity (including breathing) and I know how painful it can be. Glad the sub didn’t get damaged to add insult to literal injury; wishing you a speedy recovery friend!
