I'm out in Idaho visiting family and my uncle decided to open this one up with all of us. He won this in the Idaho state lottery almost 10 years ago... It was the only bottle the whole state received that year, pretty amazing he won it. I know this one is very over hyped and I've had a pour of it at a bar before, but man this was really tasting next level last night! Very oily and viscous despite the lower proof point.

The absolute best PVW = other people’s PVW

20 is great though and if it wasn’t so overhyped it would still be a great pour!

It isn't actually, 2012 was the last Stitzel year for the 20. It could have some SW but its not exclusively SW.

if you were buying or selling this bottle I doubt you'd call it "splitting hairs"

Regardless it has been opened and was very good! It was shared amongst family and truly enjoyed.

Watch forum or a knitting circle if you give out incorrect info you can be damn sure you're going to hear about it. Thanks for showing me who you are so I can ignore you.

Ok

You can argue with yourself about the internal ratio of SW inside it.

Tried a bar pour of the RR13. Suuuper similar to WT rare breed - a little more oak, a little more caramel but definitely the same WT slightly nutty and spicy vibe. Overall I found it drank way hotter (mouth burn) than expected for its proof and age. Will probably end my hunt for this knowing WT rare breed and Russell’s 10 will get me 90% of the way there, imo of course.

I know nothing about Bourbon Whiskey.
I'm a big fan of Speyside - Single Malts.
We found an (unopened) 1 litre bottle of Jim Beam in the cellar, we think it arrived in a Christmas hamper, given to us many years ago.
My question is; is it worth opening?

If you are a big fan of single malts and have never tried bourbon before, this is a good first step. You will be in for a very different experience, but this is a typical gateway that many people have told me to start with just to develop a baseline so you know what a basic bourbon tastes like before moving on to more complex bottles. I am not an expert, but in my opinion going from a really good and complex single malt to Jim Beam White Label is going to be very similar to a basic blended Irish whiskey. Maybe the basic Jameson or Bushmills, Famous Grouse, would be a similar comparison? They are all very mild, decent whiskeys.

Jim Beam white has a very mild flavor profile with regards to bourbons, as it has not been aged very long. 3 or 4 years maybe? I am not sure but others here are experts and will for sure know.

Definitely open it and try it. You might like it. It's whiskey, so it will be just as good as the day it was bottled. If you aren't a fan of the milder taste, it will go well with cooking in various sauces and grilling marinades. You can also keep it on hand for when you have company over who may not have had bourbon before. It's a good first step. You can also mix various whiskey cocktails with it.

Just my humble opinion, as I am somewhat new to the whiskey world and I am learning as I go.

Thank you for that Mendota.
I'll give it a try this evening.
I'm assembling the ingredients for the family Christmas cakes, so if it doesn't take my fancy, I'll soak the fruit with some Jim Beam, it might make a nice change from the usual Napoleon.

Well, I shan't be sipping any more of Messrs Jim Beam's product.
Not sure what I expected, but I didn't expect Bourbon to smell and taste like a sweetened plastic adhesive!
I won't be inflicting my Christmas cake fruit with it either!
Glad I didn't pay for it.
