AP finding out date of purchase

Good Morning guys,

My sister asked me to buy a new AP for her and so I did thru Chrono24. Watch came a bit scratched despite the 500+ positive reviews of the seller.
We decided to keep the watch anyway, but now I'm questioning if the year of the watch (2022) they stated on ads it's real or not. I'm worried it might be an older series.
On the new Warranty card no date is shown and I really don't know how to find it out. The only way to find out the date of purchase seems to get registered and extend the warranty on AP website, correct ?
My question is, since I want to make sure about the year before handing the watch to my sis, can I first register it on my name and later on my sis register the watch again on her name? Or it can be done only one time ? I'm a bit confused about all this as it's our first AP. If someone can clarify how everything works I will be forever grateful.

Personal note, i wish there was a simplest way to find out the date of Original purchase. Why on earth they won't state it on the documents ?😪

Thanks lot guys and wish you a great day ✌️

Yes, the only way to find out the original purchase date it to register the watch on AP website. You can register it on you and then on your sister without problems.

Call your local boutique and ask them to run the serial number for you.

I don't understand why you have to make sure the date before give it to your sister if you already decided to keep it anyway.

You can resister at AP website under your name or your sister name, so you will see the expiration date of the warranty (it's 5 years from the original purchasing date).

Ok guys I did register on the website and Warranty end 20/11/2026. The dealer told us it's a 2022 watch, but if it has 5 years warranty from the purchasing date then it's a 2021 watch, right?
It's a bit upsetting to deal with these kind of shady dealers. Watch is scratched (doesn't look unworn as he said) and apparently it is not a 2022 watch as stated on his chrono24 ads. Eeehh

Oh that's just me I don't want to look like a complete fool as I got it with scratches already... just wanted to make sure about the date before telling it to her, coz I don't trust the dealer anymore despite his 500+ good reviews on chrono24. Apparently the watch is a November 2021. Warranty ends 20/10/2026

Doesn't Chrono24 offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and hold your payment in escrow just in case? Return it.

I did get a good deal compared other dealers, something like 8k cheaper. But the reason is because it is used, not new as they mentioned. I would have preferred an honest description and pay something more instead.

Chrono could cover these problems but at the end we decided to have that link Polished and leave it like that.
I already gave it to a lab this evening they'll try to fix it. Not the best experience. Lesson learned, next time only pick in person.

I read on somewhere on google that AP Warranty sometime can be 1 or 2 months shorter/longer. If that's true then can be a 2022.

register it on the AP website and you'll see more details on the watch.

You can also call the AP service center in Florida, email them pics of your watch showing the serial number and they can give you more details as well.

Just finished the expertise at Lab today and with my biggest surprise the watch is unworn and (thanks God) Authentic. I don't know what happened with those scratches but everything is good now as they managed to polish that link. Maybe someone dropped or something.. Btw it's unworn and back to its best shape. I feel much better now

I'll try to give a call as well 👍

Yesterday I managed to extend the warranty on AP website and it'll end on November 2026. So most likely the purchasing date is November 2021, as the warranty covers 5 years... right?

What do you mean by Lab? Did you bring it to the AP boutique in Paris? Not sure how they would be able to determine the watch was unworn? I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty. They probably overstated the watch as 2022 to make it more appealing, but if it is 11/2021 its not that big of a reach.

Also wouldn't worry too much if its just some scratches on a link. Those will come anyways and can be polished/replaced. If it were on the case it would be a bigger deal. I'm assuming someone wore it lightly around for a few days, accidentally put a scratch on the link, and then later decided to sell it. The dealer tried to pass it off as new. But reality is no watch is truly new/unworn unless buying direct from the boutique and you see them remove it from the coffin in front of your eyes.

I did bring the watch to a certified WOSTEP Swiss Lab in Singapore. It's the best Lab in town where people brings tons of real expensive watches to fix and authenticate, including most of the grey dealers. It's crazy how they can tell if it's unworn or used. They never fail using a very detailed microscope to check in between the links and screws. A worn watch ( even 2/3 times) will have even the smallest trace of dirt in between the links or real small damages on the screws if it has been sized or opened previously. Something you can tell only using their huge microscope. Watch appear to be unpolished and perfectly factory clean. I don't know what happened with thise scratches on that link, our idea is that someone dropped it on the floor, which isn’t good neither. After polishing that part it looks perfectly fine. My biggest concern beside the scratches was to pay a full price for a used Watch.

For sure AP service center would be the best choice. But at the moment it is already great that this lab give us green light, as it is a very reputable place to have your watches checked.

Btw next time I'll only opt for pick up in person, I like to sleep well at night 😅

Sounds like the best possible outcome. Congrats!

Which lab in Spore? Could you share details pls?

Also, if you are interested, there 2 Grey dealers in spore that I recommend:

GoodTime Luxury (Charles) and WatchExchange (William). Both in Far East Plaza

Hi Willyjo, I bought some watches already from Watch Ex ( awesome dealer) but not this 41mm AP, this i got from Chrono in Dubai.
I will take a look at GoodTime and see what they have and prices. Thanks lot.

Since you are familiar with Spore, do you think these 2 dealers got the best prices in town ?
Btw the lab is Swiss-Sav, best i found compared others, super professional.

FYI, I just checked all of mine, they are 5 years exactly from date of purchase.

Same for mine. I doubt that the warranty for a watch delivered in 2022 would only run to late 2026. OTOH, I don't see that the "model year" for an otherwise identical watch matters much.

Yes, Watch is definitely 2021 and not 2022 as they told me. I'm lucky enough it's a real and unworn watch. But I really don't like when dealers lie, even a bit. I lose all the trust for future purchases. On the luxury business for me the most important thing is to be clear 100% .. thank you guys for the support

I think this is the biggest point.

But if you got a good deal, then I guess you can be happy with the outcome!
