Grand Seiko SLGH013 or SBGH295 Decision

I have been debating about my next Grand Seiko and I narrowed it down to these 2 pieces. The SLGH013 or SBGH295. Different cases and movements, but both interesting in there own way. Any insight or opinions is appreciated. Cheers!

I would be wary of the new high-beat 9SA5 movement. My Night Birch was super fast out of the box, and it's winding its way through AD and GS warranty hell. I "enjoyed" my watch for about 3 days total, and it's been in "servicing" for the past 6 weeks. I was told by the AD about 2 weeks ago that it would have to be sent to Japan. 10-weeks more was the quote. So essentially, I will not have my watch for more than a calendar quarter.

So bear that in mind. I'm not the only one that has had 9SA5 movement problems.

Not saying all of these movements will have these issues, but the watch forums do have this issue posted from many owners, myself just be an unfortunate recent one.

Sorry to hear about the night birch and the problems with the movement. I have heard some poor feedback regarding the 9SA5 movement. Hoping the AD and Grand Seiko resolve it soon for your piece and in general. Hearing this alone has me leaning towards the sbgh295. I think I like the dial more anyways.

Both cases wear very differently on the wrist.

Suggest you try on in person if possible before committing.

I will have to be honest. No matter the GS model (And I am a HUGH fan), I am only interested in 9F's or Spring Drives.

I enjoy the extreme accuracy, ease of setting dates and adjusting the hour twice a year for daylight savings without interrupting the time keeping. For the 9F series, I find it so nice to switch watches, There always ready to go with the proper time. No muss, no fuss. Kinda "grab and go" if you will.

I also enjoy the thinner profile of the case and superior longevity these watches afford. Really, What more can you ask for? These eliminate the issues with the balance wheel escapements all together. These types of movements are not going anywhere.

I am seeing more of the textured dials being offered in the SD and 9F's. I hope to see more offerings in the future. BTW the way, out of the two watches in question I would choose the SLGH013 for the 44GS case.

Thanks for the feedback. I have only had experience with the 62GS case with the sbga413 and love it. I think it’s perfect for small wrist like mine at 6.25 inches. Found a store that would do no sales tax and ship to so might pull the trigger. I’ll keep the bread updated with a pic soon. Hopefully. Haha.

Finally made my decision. Dial is amazing as usual. No surprise from Grand Seiko. Happy holidays!
