So many great dogs here - they bring so much to the party.

@mifune - yikes! Hope your uncle is better soon. That looks pretty bad.

Uzi's brother, Owen, is extremely passive and spends a lot of his time trying to control Uzi as I think he knows they are on thin ice when I get upset.
I got put in hospital for a few days by one of the dogs we were fostering.

In that case we were able to just send her back to the rescue centre, but if it had been one of our own dogs then I hate to say it but we'd have had her put to sleep. As it was I still received a police caution for my own dog (or in this case a dog in my care) being out of control in our own house, but if had been a visitor I'm guessing there would have been no choice and she'd have been seized and destroyed.

As much as we love them, I'd assume that knowing the dog can attack could leave you open to all types of problems if it happened to someone outside the family. I really don't envy the position you're in and can only pray you make the right decision for you, your family and the puppy itself.

Spent the holiday training. “Losing” my son up to a 1/2 mile away in the Angeles National Forest in the snow and sending the Malinois after him.

I don’t know that euthanasia is the answer, but perhaps seriously consider surrendering him. If you can’t trust him, you’ll be uneasy around him, and that will make the situation worse. He may do absolutely fine in a different setting. I have some experience in this area, PM if you’d like more information.

She did well, found him every time. She’s not too good with random objects, but she’ll find that boy every time. The one thing is that she doesn’t bark, so she goes out to find him, then comes back to lead us to him…instead of just sounding off when she’s gotten to him.

None of my dogs bark/barked unless there is a perceived threat. Essentially anything outside of the ordinary. I think it’s a great trait in a dog. Just a lot more running for her but realistically, shes a malinois, running is one of her favorite things.

I love the little bastard and his brother... he's not going anywhere. I am just going to be EXTREMELY careful going forward.

UZI should live on a ranch somewhere as he has ENDLESS energy and loves action.

Glad to hear it, but consider a few things; if you’re apprehensive about him hurting someone else, he feels it. His interpretation of your apprehension can cause it to happen again. He doesn’t understand the why, his job is just to protect you from it. Try to be calm and at peace when he’s around other people…as if you KNOW it won’t happen again. You have to believe it. You can’t fake it, they know. Good luck and Godspeed.

Good points, although being extremely careful may not cut it in this situation. I still lean to the side of euthanasia though.

There is always a home suitable never do something you can’t unwind. A dog behaviouralist do work. Good luck and power to you willing to persist.

My wife and I are dog lovers and we’ve always had a dog together since we meet 12+ years ago. Our first dog (Kota) was an F1b Goldendoodle that we unfortunately had to say goodbye to in September 2022.

We are now down to one. Sullivan (Sully) is a 5 year our Sheepadoodle.

We recently decided to foster an 8 month old puppy who was in need of some love and a happy home. We found out that he’s a sheepadoodle as well and looks very similar to Sully. We named him Nash (our son calls him “baby dog” lol) and he’s been a great puppy so far. Part of me is considering adopting him and making him part of our family.

Here’s some pics. Sully first

Nash

And our beloved Kota girl. RIP

You’ve gotten a ton of good replies re: behaviorists and what not, just came in to say sorry man. I had to rehome my cattle dog after a couple close calls (strangers and family), couldn’t take the risk. They’re usually very protective of 1 person and everyone else be damned.

We tried everything including meds, vet behaviorist (very few in the country), 100’s of hours of training, pheromones, you name it.

Hands down the smartest and most loyal dog I’ve ever had, and the worst situation, all at the same time.
