I remember watching the race on TV as Romain Grosjean’s car slid under the rail and burned. I immediately flashed back to watching Lorenzo Bandini die in a fiery wreck at Monaco when I was a child. I still don’t know how he survived, but he’s doing well in IndyCar. Two second places in the last two races.

I had the same sort of reaction. It was pretty emotional to watch as awful as it was.

I was fortunate enough to meet him at the Indy race here in Nashville when they came through the following year.

Super nice guy. So fortunate that he was ok and able to carry on. It’s amazing the recovery as well considering the intensity of it all, seeing him carrying on and racing as normal afterwards with no real ill effects. I’m happy for him and amazed by it.

awesome pictures... thank you.

that helmet display is interesting because I have a story from decades ago when I went to the LBGP and bell helmets had a display there in the back of an 18 wheeler.

it was a timeline display and the historic helmets were just sitting on a shelf and when I came upon Sennas Monaco race winning helmet, I reached out and picked it up and looked at it. I looked around and there were no security or workers, and then I looked at the exit and I was a step and a half from the door. for a half a second I thought 'there is nobody to stop me' from running out. I put the helmet down and finished and walked out. after I was outside the display, I stood there for a few seconds and turned to look back and 5-6 security personnel and display workers were running as fast as they could into the trailer... it didnt stop me from still wanting that helmet.

good to see they have learned their lesson, though I think they could have gotten away with plexiglass.

Interestingly enough, just yesterday I watched a documentary on the history of Monaco and Lorenzo Bandini's crash was featured in the piece. Prince Rainier was committed to better safety after that tragic episode and when you watch the Monaco track marshals, you can see how professional and efficient they are. Fortunately, Monaco has not had a bad incident in a while.

With regard to Grosjean's crash, it was probably the 2nd time I had seen something so terrifying on track that I thought we just witnessed a death. The other was Robert Kubica's crash in the Williams as he crashed going into the Casino Hairpin in Montreal. Luckily in both cases, both drivers walked away with very minor injuries considering the ferociousness of the crash - a true testament to the modern day safety in F1.

So Paul, how is Miami treating you? :)

Also, Laura on F1 TV needs a Wonder Woman headband.

Not in Miami for the show. But watching as many of my friends are.

Very interesting grid, don’t you think? The R/F robbed a few perhaps but it happens. Wish there was a way to fix that. Same for penalties that may occur in Q1 or Q2 affecting knockouts. Alas, it has produced a most interesting Turn 1 scenario.

The FormulaE race in Monaco yesterday was very good for Saturday viewers and prolly looked a lot like MIA might - at least for the majority of the race. Processional if you know what I mean.

Did anyone also catch MIA GP Race 1 in the Porsche Cup? It is the only support series this weekend and gave a hint of how the track evolved during a race. Was on IMSA.tv live - and will be again today:

Thx for the heads up about the Porsche race, yes and we have a TRF member as a driver too

British GP's Silverstone 500 live streaming now.

Yes, very interesting starting grid.

(Humor... and ok, sure, a bit of truth) Also truly loved Laura's Wonder Woman outfit yesterday, my wife pointed it out first btw. Laura was soooo close to perfection with that outfit, especially for being in #FloridaWoman territory. Welp, hopefully next year she completes her outfit. Maybe one of the young guys could do their best #FloridaMan and dress as Superman too??? You know, get into the whole Miami FLORIDA experience.

GOAT FTW!

TRF GTG @ next year's GP. We'll need to bribe Paul for VIP so we can hang out within the stadium. Miami GP needs #FloridaMan, if just for entertainment purposes. Imagine the memes!

Brother, I will rent the best Batman suit I can find. I suggest all of the members showing up rent a different superhero suit and we do some good before meeting up by visiting a local childrens hospital, shelter, foster home or the like. If we all did it together that would be even more epic!!

I sorta see you two in the best corner seat (um, stand) - no Batman suit required.

Oh no, not at all.

Those two spots between the orange-suited ones are the best spots in the house on the inside of the apex.
