Rolex yellow gold after time

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if after some time (let's say a year +) gold becomes even more yellow (dark yellow) or is it still the same tone as when was new?

I've seen some pictures where the yellow gold looks darker over time..

Thanks in advance :)

It would take decades to change color or be left in environment where oxidization could occur. (i.e) inside a watch box in a cold/damp environment.

I've worn my YG DD40 and 116618LB since 2016 and the color is exactly the same as the day I bought them.

Plus a polish and fresh up would make any discoloration disappear. Its 18kt gold we are talking about so its not going to fade over time like 9kt gold.

I recently acquired a YG Daytona and it does seem to be a deeper tone than newer 18k I see on new models. Almost a sort of RG. I like the way it looks.

It is usually because they need to be cleaned.

I have a yellow gold TT dayjust for only about 2 years so I don’t know if it’s too short or the yellow gold is good to resist the color change over time.
But I have a 24 k gold necklace I have been wearing for more than 30 years. I don’t see any changes in color

Hasn't Rolex also tweaked their yellow gold over the years?

I am no expert but I thought the alloy mix on modern references has changed to give them a brighter/lighter shade of yellow vs the deeper shade of yellow on older references.

On the same topic, using a jeweler’s cloth for light polishing a bad idea?

If not, how about cape cod wipes?

Yes, I've had mine turn dark yellowish after 1-2 months of use after purchasing it. I do live in a humid climate though

I'm recalling a never ending thread some time ago about a TT date just in a hot tub. I wonder if that got sorted out.

Yes I believe so too. Seems they went from 3N to 2N (less copper, more silver).

I had a Z series 16618LB gold sub (Sold) now have a 2019 116618LB gold sub. I feel the older Z series had a slight rose tone to the gold compared to my current gold sub, which has a much lighter gold tone.

Modern Rolex gold is definitely more "yellow" to me. How it will age I would guess less than older stuff but lots of conditions in play. I like old gold.
