The Smurf is wildly underrated. Once it's discontinued (and it's been around a long while) to make room for something new, it's price will skyrocket. Also, white gold Subs are just the coolest.

Smurf(blue on blue) is already discontinued. The black dial w/blue bezel replaced it.

Oh yes, what I like about it that it pops in bright sunlight but looks very modest inside under artificial lighting.
The warm hue of WG combined with the PCL’s is stunning.

With the inert qualities of gold it makes it even more of a tool watch for the marine environment than any SS Submariner.

I thought that I would like it when the Smurf first came out, but I was not sure.
Finally I bought it because my AD gave me a terrific discount (he could not sell it to anyone else lol)
Kept it for a few months …can’t say I was happy or unhappy
this much blue was not satisfying to me ….Sold it after a few months.

Ok sage, here ya go. Back in 2013 i got that first edition Rolex magazine that had the Platona. I told my AD i wanted one and he chuckled and told me it was platinum. I still thought maybe one day. Over the years i lusted for one and it was truly my one true grail(please excuse the corniness). I found my collection loaded with SS models and still knew the Platona was the ONE watch i wanted most. About 2 yrs ago my AD told me he could very likely get me one, and i said YES. 6 months later he told me he would have it within 2 months so to be ready. I sold a blue Milgauss, BLNR, SD43, and a HULK to fund the purchase. BEST watch decision i ever made! The Platona is really all i ever wanna wear. This is your version of YOUR Smurf. You’ve wanted it for 9 years and the prices are down here as of late. Seen them in the high 30s. You will never regret getting your grail. You’ll barely miss the others with this blue beast on your wrist! NOW GO DO IT!!! This is the longest thread I’ve ever written and I don’t even know you but i feel that passionate. Good luck

After lusting after one for three years I finally picked up a Smurf last week. Everytime I’ve been in the position to buy one over the past 18 months there has not been a good one for sale. They are increasingly getting harder to find in great condition as they weren’t popular for years.

Pick one up whilst you can particularly if it’s a 2020 model in great condition. Mine is a stickered 2017 and it’s getting worn a lot. Pictures never do this watch justice of how beautiful it is.

Price wise they are all over the place ranging in the UK from 33-42k so if you are happy with the trade go for it.

Given your collection, it's a yes from me. Still plenty of great SS references in the collection and PM just hits different.

Do it. You will always think about it. And it’s one of the later ones as well. It’s an incredible watch. It always mesmerizes you. Probably my favorite

You have a great collection and, if I were in your position I would do it. If the itch hasn't gone away after all these years you need to scratch it! GOOD LUCK!
