Ahhhh yes, when men were men and the risks were very much real (far moreso than today).

I know what you mean, but the laws of physics still apply. And watching a man almost burned alive brings us all home to what’s actually important and what the (very real) risks still are. |

What do people think about Jean Alesi? I've watched a lot of his footage and he had insane car control. I think he was very talented but too emotional and prone to mistakes. Was really good in wet.
But either way, he wasted his best years with (mostly) non-competitive Ferrari. Sure he was completely dominated by Prost when they were at Ferrari together. But so was Nigel Mansell. People say that Ferrari set the car for Alain only but maybe it's just that Prost was a superior driver? Anyway... amazing that Alesi only had one GP win in his career. Italians loved him, even though he never won a race with Ferrari and that only one win came with Benetton. This was a phenomenal race by Alesi.

Oh yes, there's still risk. Those early Pilots of Formula 1, Fangio, etc, very real risks! Am glad things are much safer today.

The fire risk, is always present.
Bahrain 2020. Romain Grosjean's 'rescuer', FIA doctor Ian Roberts, showed incredible bravery. |

There were several rescuers that night. But yes, Dr. Roberts was included in a special award at the end of season prize giving.
If you recall 2020-2021 was the height of the pandemic. So, for the first time ever, the prize giving ceremony was virtual. The segment regarding F1 included the following: “In what has been an incomparable year for many reasons, there were three FIA President Awards in 2020. The recipients of the third award were recognised for their bravery and exceptional reaction in coming to the aid of Haas F1 team driver Romain Grosjean, following his accident on the opening lap of the Bahrain Grand Prix. Marshals from the Bahrain motor federation rushed to the scene to assist Grosjean’s escape from the fire that had engulfed his race car. They were joined by the FIA Formula 1 Medical Rescue Co-ordinator Dr Ian Roberts and FIA Formula 1 Medical Car Driver Alan van der Merwe. The combined heroics of this group of courageous individuals meant that Grosjean emerged with minor burns to his hands.” It’s worth noting that this morning he is already on the track at Monza for the F3, F2, Porsche SuperCup, and F1 sessions running as we speak. OMG has it really been 20 years? Wow!
Nice 2nd place by Montoya too! Ferrari desperately needs to bring the old team operators back.

New F3 Champion
![]() Gabriel Bortoleto (BOR) has been crowned the 2023 Formula 3 champion, clinching the title with Trident in his rookie season. This 18-year-old Brazilian, who is part of Fernando Alonso’s A14 Management driver development, cinched the championship yesterday at Monza. The other 2 drivers who still had a mathematical chance to challenge BOR failed to secure critical points for pole position during qualifying... Why does it matter? Keep BOR on a post-it note - if 2024 F2 contract (TBD) results in another championship then you’ll likely see him on an F1 team very soon. Now, back to your regular programming ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The Official Formula One Thread!
Ferrari fat in the fire!
The SC1 to SC2 time window was issued last night. ![]() Then this morning, the RD gave a detailed explanation in para. 4 of the Event Notes on Page 1 (blue ink). This was done before FP3 so all teams had ample time to calculate their Quali delta’s. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Always a special day when a Ferrari driver is on the top step in Monza. The power and low down force package clearly working especially against a Red Bull that is super quick with it's DRS open during qualifying. Although we know the Bulls sacrifice Saturday qualifying speed to optimize Sunday race pace, hopefully the Scuderia can have at least 1 car on the podium tomorrow.

This should be the most interesting start, and first laps until DRS enabled, of the year. And prolly best pre-race anthem too.

Well, it was overall a great race :)
Remark: What a year... if there would be no Verstappen, it could have been the best season ever. But nowadays we have to be satisfied with the new and more new records. All belonging to Max. |

Fantastic race!!!
![]() Great racing from the front to midfield and all without any outside factors such as safety cars, red flags or rain, just straight up who is faster! ![]() Driver of the day without question is Carlos Sainz! The final results could have been predicted, but not how they 2 bulls got there. Stellar defense of Max, Checo and even his own teammate in the middle and final part of the race. ![]() |

It was a great race. When I thought it would be an interesting start - I had no idea TSU would be the cause.
First, there was an aborted start - then a delayed start. His AlphaTauri needed assistance from a flatbed after stopping on the formation lap…then someone kept the pitlane gate shut after the delayed start was announced. But once the lights went out - Great Scott. Only 4 penalties, all levied in-race (no post-race hearings to shuffle the on-track results) Zero VSC, Zero SC, 100% racing. Most of that is due to good weather, a real track for racing, and driver respect to avoid useless contact. If more tracks were like Monza F1 would please more fans. No longer the world record, but this is one breathtaking lap. People don't realize how skillful you have to be to drive like this.
Kimi was one of the most talented drivers. Too bad he was lazy and didn't really put his mind into it. But he had his brilliant moments. This was one of them.

Great lap of course.
I’m not with you on the lazy part. But his directness, and refusal to play the politically correct game, hurt him. As a pure driver, very gifted, laser focused. No champion is lazy. LMAIKWID - not Finnish - but known the world ‘round. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

F1 needs to hire Kimi as an announcer. It could bring not only wonderful entertainment for the listeners, it'll also be refreshingly honest and direct commentary too.

I think Schumacher and Senna were 100% devoted and more passionate about developing the car (although when Senna and Berger were teammates at McLaren Berger did a lot of work too).
