It's Eric Wind, you're always paying a massive premium for his pieces. He sold a 6538 for like 500k earlier this year.

But its in fantastic condition, just look at the case and dial. The bezel is an original bakelite, would be surprising if it didn't have any cracks given the fragility of the material.

I agree that the bezel shows cracks so it has either been glued together or it is likely to fall apart in the future. I used to be very interested in this reference, but the delicacy of the Bakelite bezel would make me think twice about wearing it. So if I had one, it would probably just be to keep in my collection.

Great looking reference and the price reflects that

I`m sorry but have you not studied the amount of cracks in the bezel ! The dial and hands are good the case isnt perfect but its hardly worth 160KGBP!

To an amateur like myself who is always learning, do the hands look original to this 6542? The minute hand appears to "reach into" or "stretch beyond" the minute markers. Many thanks.

They’re supposed to. Hands should hit the chapter ring.

Sure, I didn't think the 6538 was worth 500k either but hey, someone paid it.

I have no personal knowledge of this particular watch or the 6538 that is being discussed, and not much firsthand knowledge about this particular dealer. But just because you see a listing on a dealer's site marked SOLD, doesn't mean that it really sold. Maybe these watches sell for these prices, or maybe they don't.

It's clear that dealers play a lot of games to create the illusion that watches sell for their asking prices, and to artificially pump up the market. However, we very often see the same watches popping up for sale first with one dealer, then it is marked SOLD but turns up for sale by another dealer, then it shows up at an auction, etc.

Thats one of those watches where you would want to get an aftermarket bezel from fear that the original will just fall apart to the tune of about $30,000. Id be afraid to wear it because where are you going to find another original Bakelite bezel?

I'd even be afraid to remove it.

I don’t get why anyone would pay THAT MUCH of a premium?

Looking at prices that have been paid for other watches I’m sure someone will offer up for it even though people think it’s mad
