Just seeing this Brian. So sorry for your loss. I know you did everything humanly possible to keep Mochi happy, healthy and comfortable. He was a fantastic family member and there is no question he felt your love for him everyday he was on the earth. ~RIP~ Mochi

We started fostering these two siblings mid August. They are from the same litter but look very different, likely because they had different fathers (female dogs produce eggs for several days and can get around).

Anyway, they were adopted as puppies (see first pic) in 2021 and then abandoned this August when their family (huge house, three kids) left Hong Kong. We took them in via the shelter on the day they were submitted (second pic) and their first evening with us was pretty sad (pic 3), with a lot of barking and no sleep. They probably thought we kidnapped them, and were very stressed. I almost returned them to the shelter on day 2.

After a couple weeks they were much better, and enjoying their walks (pics 4 and 5). We are still fostering them, and it's been tough but rewarding. The little one is a delight but her older brother can be hard work, though is loyal and bright.

We're trying our best to find a good, permanent home for them together, but are also walking them separately each day, and having them make new friends and enjoy time at their own individual pace. This is in case we have to home them separately, but if we do that, we will keep one and make sure they see each other daily.

Anyway, say hi to Rex and Nova . . .

Wonderful what you are doing and how you are doing it. We took in dogs that no one would take because of age or medical conditions. It is very rewarding.

He lived with us for more than a year. A very happy dog.
We named him Henry.

Hi Rex. Hi Nova. I hope you find a good home!

Hi Adam, it is strange how people get dogs and they probably never see their siblings again. I’ve had a passing thought or two thought about it and now that you have siblings it reminds me of how lucky they will be if you can keep them together. A tough day if you have to separate. Good job Adam and good luck!

Thanks Kevin. I think they'd be happier in the long run with their own families. Look up "littermate syndrome". These two don't have it too bad, but it can be a real issue for many dogs, it seems. There are good and bad sides to it, though. Their closeness is touching, but they fight like crazy when off leash for the first few minutes (it's an even match, and the little one holds her own and then some). That said, they return to leash like rockets when called, almost like a race.

Wow. I didn’t know that was a thing. I just googled it and it does make sense.

I think my sisters and I had it…well, except we were born in different years. Hmmm.

They say littermates don't bond as well with humans, but no such issue with these two. Rex can seem quite distant at times, but shows something special sometimes, too. Recently when I'm sitting at my desk, he'll come and lie next to me and put his paw on my foot, like this...

Our Aussie-Border Collie mix does the same thing to me.

I am so sorry to hear this. Before i owned a dog i didnt understand why people loved them so much, now i do. When mine goes i am going to be a mess and so upset. Dogs are amazing. I have two kids and he is like our third sibling. Somebody said to me they are the sibling that never argues with the other ones. They are the best friend of the whole family.

Geeze, I’ve been working from home for many years so he’s been by my sidekick and partner in crime for quite a while. He had a full, terrific, joyful live with love all around him. I’ll sadly miss him, but I’m glad he was my buddy for so long and we shared so many good times. So I’ll focus instead on celebrating him! Cheers to you Brody!

Really sad to see this news Kevin. We were devastated to lose our 13-yr-old JRT Toby last May, and are still struggling to come to terms with it. One thing we keep telling each other, though, is 'no regrets'. Stay strong, bud

I concur with Adam.. So sorry to hear of your loss of Brody. Great looking dog..I't be a hard go for quite a while Im sure having been there many times over the years. But it's kinda gratifying knowing that he had a great life with you. He'll sure be missed which in a way is a good thing.
Hang in there....
