Incoming Tudor Sub

Not a planned acquisition, but when I saw this blue 79090 from 1989 listed for sale I couldn't resist snagging it. Arrived today, and very happy indeed with it.

Also makes a lovely pair with my 5513 from 1981.

Great catch. Is the blue version of the 79090 quite rare?

Looking at a small database of just 1450 I have recorded, (so a soupçon of salt required):

1 in 5 of 79090 blue

1 in 7 of 79190 blue.

Interviewing a few dealers from 80/90s I learnt that supply of blue was quite forthright - it was just that at the time they were not as sought after.

Reason being is that in 80/90s many buyers wanted a Tudor clone of a Rolex 1680 and 16610, and Rolex hadn't ventured into weird and wonderful non-monochrome/coloured pieces at that time, on steel submariners.

Thus black was the default purchase for a watch way less than half cost of equiv. Rolex.

Can be - very safe place to buy and sell, too.

Just picked up a new 78500 bracelet from Watches of Switzerland. Very happy with it now. (Excuse the bruising and the PJ's... just had some surgery so a bit the worst for wear!)
