Advice Needed: Gift for Daughter

Hi- looking for some advice from fellow enthusiasts. We just had our first daughter and I'd like to buy her a watch a new or vintage rolex, have it engraved and then give it to her when she turns 21.

Has anyone done something like this? Any ideas on watches? I was thinking maybe a yellow gold 36mm day-date (that my wife or I can wear in the meantime)?

Can you be my dad? I personally don’t like 36 mm on woman I think the rose gold datejusts in 31 mm are the best. I particularly like the everose rolesor with rose dial this one I am considering getting for my wife for our anniversary.

Sounds like you and your wife want to share the watch. A DD36 sounds perfect. 36 is unisex after all and a YG watch is a banger! She will love it for her 21st. Maybe wait til she graduates college at 22ish. I think that’ll be more memorable and she’d feel worthy of the gift.

Congratulations on the new arrival. I did something very similar in November 2023. My son was born in March 2023 and I wanted something registered in his year of birth with the intention of giving it to him as his 21st birthday present.

I got a DJ41 on Jubilee with a fluted bezel from my AD. I’ll admit to wearing it a lot myself already! I want him to grow up seeing me wearing it to make it even more special when I do pass it over

Why not buy a watch to commemorate this special delivery. You and your wife can enjoy it, as befits this momentous occasion. When your daughter reaches a milestone Birthday, get her something SHE wants.

Put that money in S&P 500 or Nasdaq 100 fund, 20 years later your daughter can use that money to get whatever timepiece that she wants.

Buy your wife a pair of diamond studs. When your daughter is older have your wife pass the diamonds down to your daughter and upgrade your wife. her diamonds I mean.

Many great pieces of advice. While the sentimental value might be there for you, I don’t think she will cherish the gift as much as you might think. Put the ,only aside, watch it grow and let her buy a watch jewelry or whatever she likes. That will be a great memory for her.

I thought this was going in a different direction when I first read it. That being:

Register your interest in a watch for your daughter
Buy your wife diamond stud earrings
Keep buying your wife jewelry.
In 21 years, you'll get the call for the incoming.
