PAM 1364 - $55k - Can you justify?
What are your thoughts on the platinum annual calendar, PAM 1364, for $55k?
First, I think it is stunning. Beautiful dial, love the platinum weight and tone, interesting month indicator (in Italian), unique brown strap, but very expensive for a Panerai. As the price of other models steadily increases, is 2-3x most other PAMs justified? Is it just too much for a Panerai? Beyond the brand, finish of movement, etc.? Is a complicated Panerai at odds with what most of us want in a Panerai (as opposed to a PP or others)? I do find it enticing and really beautiful in person... |

I would say one should be willing to lose half its value over the next few years on that model.

It's a beautiful watch no doubt. I just think $55k is way outside the standard market for a Panerai. Unless you are a huge Paneristi and will never sell it or you know similar collectors such that if you decide to sell you could maybe sell it that way. Otherwise you are buying a white elephant. Spending $55K on a Patek or Lange is just standard for those watches so I would feel comfortable. $55K for a Panerai - no.

What am I missing - does it read March 28 and also indicate January (Gen) on the dial? What am I not reading correctly on the dial?

Sorry, I’m slow. I still don’t get it. But shouldn’t it be the same month? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Never. Panerai is outside of its lane with this watch and many others that add multiple complications and significant price. No historical link with this watch and the made-up company that calls itself Panerai. Well documented if you take the time to research it. Not only is this watch a mashup but you will lose significant money should you ever decide to sell or trade it. Leave the 55k watches to the companies that do them well and Panerai is not one. Stick to the older model Panerai's from when the company had a soul. With all of that said I am still a fan of some of the watches and the design language but typically only older models. My 233, 317, 992 and 162 and a boatload of straps make it all work for me.

Yes. It’s the day of the week. It’s not in English, it’s Italian. Martedi=Tuesday.

I like this reference quite a bit. Interested to see what this trades at when it hits the secondary market in a year or two. Will pick one up then, but can resist at 55k!

if you want to kiss your hard earned 55k goodbye, that’s a personal choice. Stick with old school 25, 55, 190 or 233 and now that’s a worthwhile endeavor

Not going to buy it. Seems like most concur it is too much $ given where the brand sits today. But it is still a beautiful watch, with some interesting complications, and I am glad Panerai produced it and is continuing to innovate. Should they just stop producing anything new and call it a day?
I do think there is too much focus on a few historic models. For me, it doesn't need to be a model worn by Italian divers in WWII to be legit. There are definitely too many PAMs that should never have been made and movements that should have been hidden not displayed, but there are gems across the spectrum - new and old. |
