Emoji Storms
I'm Sharing this info for users of TapaTalk Pro who may have experienced random storms of emojis in their posts.
Sometimes it happened to me if I quoted a post with numbers. Or if a post of mine had numbers. After working with TapaTalk tech support over several days we found that the symptoms were intermittent but pointed to the client app on the device. In my case, that is an iPhone 16 and TapaTalk Pro. But it can happen with the new iOS on older devices like iPhones and iPads. TapaTalk has stopped dev updates on TapaTalk Pro and is only hosting the original TapaTalk. So that means switching your app out. The gremlins affected interactions with updated forum servers, TapaTalk photo hosting, and Unicode maps. The solution if this is happening to you follows: 1. Log out of TapaTalk Pro. 2. Download the free TapaTalk app. 3. Open it and log-in with your VIP user ID. All of your forums and PMs should be populated. For the geeks: ------Device------ Device ID: Redacted Model: iPhone16ProMax, MYW93LL/A iOS Version: iOS 18.1 App Version: Tapatalk Pro 8.10.1 Build version: 2594 TT ID: 1196497 TT UserName: 77T TT LoginType: normal TT Status: 1 ------Forum URLs------ https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/vintagerolexforum https://www.rolexforums.com When a TapaTalk client app connects to the forum server, it attempts to discover what the server's setting is, and it sets the P4_ port _CHARSET variable. As new characters using the standardized code point system come out, the old TapaTalk Pro client won't be updated. Hope that helps anyone else having random emoji insertions. Wow, thanks for this Paul.
I’m using the free version so I guess maybe that’s why I haven’t had the issue. I’m not gonna lie, I’m going to mis your emoji blasts |

This was the most unusual case - working with the TapaTalk people was great in how they chased it down.
I was an early adopter back when it was a flat fee. Now it's a subscription model. Unbeknownst to me, I had been grandfathered into VIP status. I did forget to say that in my first post - one needs to be on their VIP plan. Subsequently, TapaTalk decided to shut down support for the old TapaTalk Pro but I still had that old App running. If anyone has the storm then this should help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
