This New Watch Clasp Aims to Keep Your Rolex From Being Stolen
French company, Okros, has invented a Watchlock system to prevent your Daytona from getting stolen.

Very interesting approach. I bought my wife a Love Bracelet from Cartier, and that thing screws down and locks onto her wrist. I made the comment to our SA that if someone wants it, they’ll have to cut her hand off, and Rolex/AP/Patek should probably invent a similar locking system. We joked about it. And here it is!
I suspect a thief may find it within their sphere of scruples (or lack there of) and have no problem just machete off your appendage to get a $20,000 or more score! Not sure I’d want this… Will be interesting to hear what others think. Thanks for posting OP! |

Seems like a neat idea - dependent on how intent your mugger is... surprised they haven't produced one for the Sub + GMT ranges - but I'd imagine you'd lose the glidelock and easy-link functions.

Stupidest idea ever. If a frantic criminal wants my watch, they get it… not worth introducing this into the equation.

Great for sleight of hand pickpocket types. Not so great for crazed thieves intent on getting your watch. Not for me.

Just learn Kung Fu. It's a win win. You get into shape and get to kick a muggers ass at the same time. Extremely rewarding!

Yeah I dunno. The potential damage from someone trying to rip the watch off your wrist could be ugly. I doubt machete wielding thieves are common in most first world big cities but my watch is not worth losing a hand or my life over.
It is pretty impressive tech packed into a clasp that appears no bigger than the standard one. |

The best secure system would be to lay the foundations to set laws that allow us to shoot the thief. I am sure they would never stole again…

When I have to start locking my watch to my wrist then it’s time for a new hobby.

Imagine – you are approaching security at the airport an then you realise that you have left the key at home. Will they accept that you can´t remove your watch ?

When someone is threatening you with a machete , as regularly happens in London, the lock is useless as you just take off the watch and give it to them

By the time you had explained to the robber that you cannot take the watch off, you’ll be dead.

Nothing that an inexpertly wielded meat cleaver won't overcome. Thieves are adaptable.

For what this WatchLock costs I'd be looking at buying a simple watch to wear when I go on my travels to those destinations where my Rolex (or other expensive watch) may get removed from my wrist.
Its a great idea and thank you OP for creating the thread, at least someone is trying something to stop the thieves.

Interesting concept. Not sure why you would need a unique key though. Just have it unlock with the same size flat blade screwdriver used to remove a link.
I mean, why make the clasp seemingly more secure than the bracelet, which could just be removed with a simple screwdriver? As others have said, could help sight of hand theft, would be worried about violence escalation and resulting injury. |
