Lady DateJust 6917 service

My wife's vintage 6917 (I know, redundant) has been back to Rolex for servicing numerous times in the last few years. Sometimes it will run accurately for 6 months, sometimes for 6 days. Always sent back through an AD, though the franchise has changed hands in my area in the last couple of years. The last time we picked it up the AD basically indicated that they weren't interested in dealing with it anymore. Apparently, according to them, parts support even through Rolex is spotty, though I don't necessarily trust anything the AD says anymore.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a repair center who can provide repair/service on that model so that it will function correctly. It worked very well for decades - the only watch she was able to wear without it stopping in a few days - or running backwards! She must have an electrifying body!

Welcome to the Forum.

This does not sound right. Did you receive a receipt from a Rolex Service Center?

Older AD's were known to send repairs to known local shops in the past. Wondering if this was the case here.

I would recommend contacting an RSC directly to send for "proper repair."

As TTG noted, I am also wondering if this really went to Rolex. How old is the watch? Most RSCs are getting pretty picky about which vintage watches they will service, and ADs often use independent watchmakers for vintage watches that Rolex won't accept. My watchmaker does a lot of work for the local AD.

The AD does have their own authorized service center, though they claimed to have sent it to a RSC. I don't have the last receipt available to be sure that it went to Rolex, though if it had any other listing I would have been very questioning. It is a 1979-80 vintage. According to them it went to Texas. It has been to PA in the past. The previous AD wouldn't touch it in house, said that it was a difficult movement to get right. Apparently my old OP doesn't have such an issue.

If the RSC's aren't interested, is there any suggestion for a qualified independent shop?

Search the forum, or even just participate for a week or two. This question is asked and answered every day.
