Congratulations to McLaren for winning the Constructor's Title after a quarter century dry spell. They really did deserve it this year even with a valiant effort from Ferrari.

For me, I see 2024 as a building year for McLaren who were cutting their teeth in learning how to be winners with the maiden wins for both LN and PIA. Next year, they'll be a year wiser and stronger. Truly amazing job.

Well. I don’t know anything about that. I do know an ex fiancé and her sister used to go to a certain hotel to date MLB players. My current partner was courted by a NFL player before we met. None of the three ever worked for the respective leagues.

I’m sure these impoverished ladies are finding a way.

Great season comes to an end. So much drama, on and off the track. Nice to see Lewis have a decent farewell race. Now....Lewis is coming to my favorite team, this is going to be quite the circus everywhere he goes in his red overalls. I feel terrible for Sainz, hope the Wiliams gives him a better car than hey have had these past years.

The Official Formula One Thread!

Tuesday will give a first glimpse of the future for SAI as he climbs into his new Williams ride for the Abu Dhabi tests.

[edit: HAM won't participate because Mercedes has planned a series of promotional farewell events for him.]

FIA considers contract clause for driver community service:
— The FIA president, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, suggested that F1 drivers could be required to perform community service as part of their contracts in the future, inspired by Max Verstappen’s recent punishment.
“This is the community service we need every single driver, champion, to do if we want to grow. If we talk about diversity: this is the real diversity. It was not about the car, mainly about the people there.”
“I believe maybe in the future we won’t have to have it as a penalty. It has to come as a gesture from the drivers, and maybe I’ll put it in the contract once they get their licence.”
— Ben Sulayem shared that Verstappen was pleased about his community service assignment, which involved inspiring young motorsport talents during his visit to Rwanda.
“So I met him in Qatar and I said: ‘Max, don’t worry. What you are going to do is you are going to encourage and inspire young girls and boys who want to go into motorsport. And you will do that and that is your community service, when you come and receive your trophy in Rwanda.’ And he was so happy.”
“The fans don’t come from far away and it’s only by the internet and by social media. The fan is when you live [with] them, when you sit with them, when you feel them. So it is a big part of the duty that a champion, an ambassador, has to give back to society.”
— Verstappen’s community service assignment in Kigali occurred alongside the FIA Prize Giving Gala. His appearance included interacting with aspiring drivers and engineers at a grassroots motorsport development event.

Did MbS say anything about limiting the use of private airplanes or yachts?

Nothing in the cards on restricting personal transportation options.

But the brakes got pumped hard on ethics and accounting investigations. MBS request was approved.

Of course it was approved. The hypocrisy with the FIA is endless. To say nothing that they continue to force feed us hybrid power units and unwatchable Formula E when we could have V10s with sustainable, renewable fuels. Give the people what they want.

On an industry zoom with the FormulaE series a couple of weeks ago, they are aiming for better tracks to showcase the power.

They race through the Winter at temperate venues so it's an option.

They added Miami to the schedule but are going to Homestead Miami Speedway I'm told.

Yes - sadly so late it will be hard to get a ride even in WEC for 2025.

But the right move with plenty of young talent in the RB Academy

I always think that one of the most fascinating things in top echelon sport is the way some sportsmen 'go off the boil'/'lose their mojo' in their early '30s while the occasional one is still very competitive at 35. Then there is Fernando Alonso....

The Official Formula One Thread!

Many of the factors contributing to his performance slumps could be attributed to relevant factors that even we mere mortals share in our own lives. Each reacts to these differently. Yes, ALO is an outlier.

- Overtraining Syndrome (OTS) causes fatigue, decreased performance, and even adrenal and hormone changes. Mental performance anxiety, especially when coupled with the demands of public performance comparisons, can take 1/10th off every aspect of one's performance.

- Increased cognitive fatigue due to a prolonged mental demand of the longest season ever. VER didn't succumb but he had a dip in performance, too. VER bounced back swiftly - PER not as much.
- Adjustment disorder due to life changes or even grid spot creating situational stress. Lap 1 performance suffered and we all saw that.
- Competitive anxiety tied to the team's competitive environments - but also Interpersonal Conflict. Everyone reacted to Horner's fandangos differently. Adrian Newey completely lost respect for him and for the team's shareholders for sweeping it under the carpet.

Fortunately PER never experienced a life altering injury due to in-track incidents but the crashes mount up. That pre-visualization can make one situationally adverse to poking one's nose into the tiniest gap. VER never suffered from this

Perez seems destined to sit out F1 in 2025 but with full pay as he is contracted to Red Bull...No real incentive for him to do anything.

Lawson will join RB.
Looking forward for next season.
Great duo’s in the top teams with NOR/PIA , HAM/LEC and VER/LAW.
Let them race

It's a cinch that LAW won't outquali VER.
If that's what RBR wants, then OK.

TSU might've in an equally prepped RB21.
It could be a career limiting move for LAW.

Father time is undefeated. It happened with Ricciardo, it happened with Perez and it's now happening with Hamilton. Alonso is a vampire who said he wants to race after his contract is over with AM so who knows when he will hang it up.

With regard to Lawson, I'm not sure this is the correct career move. He has only 11 races under his belt and didn't beat Yuki over there past 6 races. Now he'll be going up against a stone cold killer who may or may not have even hit his prime yet.

Why not have Yuki in the seat besides Max? We all know Yuki is a Honda driver and is expendable after this year, but what if Yuki surprises and does well? It gives Red Bull options for 2026 and keeps Lawson in the Toro Rosso (I'm still calling it that) for 2025 for maturation. Putting Lawson in against Max with so little running risks the same result as Gasly and Albon, all young drivers at the time who were mentally beaten.

I can barely imagine how keyed in these guys are. They're at the pinnacle of motorsport, publicly scrutinized & any falter in performance means a kneecapping out back.

You're right: Some very competitive line-ups moving forward. I hope MCL can polish itself up for next year. They (NOR, specifically...and the pit crew) had a few too many imperfect weekends & let the WDC slip through their fingers.

The #2 at RBR will always be a #2 & if LAW has the same drive (pun) that PIA has, he will struggle when he hits the ceiling. There's no way RBR will let him shine as bright as he could at VER's detriment. I wonder if RBR will give LAW three years (one in the old '25 car, two in the new '26 car) before he moves to another team to be a #1 driver...

Sergio Perez will remain involved with Red Bull even after losing his seat to Liam Lawson in 2025. According to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, Perez will continue participating in some show runs next year.
