Magnum PI watch
Over the years read a lot of stuff on here about Magnum PI & his Rolex 1675.
Watched series 1 / now on series 2 & yet to spot said Rolex. Episode I watched last night was first time Magnum looks at his watch & managed to get a quick pic of the watch. I left the episode in the pic. Interested to know when the 1675 makes an appearance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I took these screen grabs from different episodes but unfortunately didn't labeled them with the episode they're from. The one of Magnum as a child wearing his father's 1675 is from an episode when he was treading water for many hours and hallucinating about his dad.

Season 4 episode 1. A lot of the web thinks he wore 16750 but he has stated in numerous interviews it's a 1675. He still wears it to this day. It's in rotation with an impressive collection. That watch is what got me interested in the brand. Unfortunately that model would not have been available when his farther was shot down but it's still a great story.

The last Korean War pilot was shot down in 1953 and the GMT 6542 was released in 1955. The 1675 was released in 1959.

I too, always thought it was a 16750 that Tom Selleck wore in Magnum (yes it was his personal watch). Regardless, he still wears it daily to this day, which I think is way cool!

Jakes Rolex Magazine just did an updated great article on Tom Selleck's 16750 GMT last week.

I've seen a couple posts lately indicating the GMT was introduced during 1981 so I suspect that one of the GMT web sites is misinformed regarding the production dates for the GMT 16750.

I'm a Tom Selleck and 1980's fan and have watched all of the Magnum P.I. episodes. Over the holidays recently I watched all of the Jesse Stone movies (CBS made for TV movies about a police chief in small town Massachusetts made from 2005 to 2015). He wears the Pepsi in the series. In one of the movies, "No Remorse," we get a close up of the GMT.
I don't know if this is the one that appeared in Magnum PI, nor do I know if it's even real given Hollywood's propensity to use prop watches. But here it is. Someone smarter that I am can say if it's a 1675 or 16750. |

I enhanced this, but I can't even see the 24 hour hand to attempt to identify the reference. However, in looking at the hand stack, it certainly looks consistent with a 16750 in that the hour hand appears to attach to the largest hub at the center. But it's pretty blurry and the hour hand could possibly be sitting on top of that hub.

The actual Rolex GMT that Tom Selleck worn in Magnum P.I. was purchased from a Rolex Dealer in Memphis, TN. In fact Tom Selleck purchased multiple Rolex’s and assorted jewelry from the Memphis Dealer over the years including a GMT in solid 18KT. In 2010 the dealer lost their Rolex license. Tom Selleck was known to call the dealer on the phone and would have his orders shipped to him without ever actually visiting the store.

It appears to be a Mark I GMT 16750 dial which was the last variation of the matte 16750 dials. (Yes, gentlemen, the dials were numbered out of order - the Mark II being the first matte dial variation.)

Huge Magnum fan here - I even have the Ferrari 308 to go with it, but I really wanted the GMT, but went for the 16710 just because I like the features a bit better than the 16750 or 1675. I would love to have either, but for me the look of the Pepsi, as Magnum wore was exactly what I wanted.
Chronosport is now called Momentum and they have begun reissuing the Sea Quartz 30. I have that one too. PDG |
