Final Wrist Shot
Not looking for sympathy. This happened months ago. I wanted to share at the time, but genuinely did not want the "condolences".
I wanted to share because it was a special moment for me. I have taken so many wrist shots with my dad throughout the years. This one was while he was in hospice. Of course, I only put it on him for the shot, as per his request. He was not regularly wearing it in the hospital. That was the first night. We took him home the next day. I got my love of watches from my dad. He did some work for Armitron when I was a kid. He used to bring some home for me from time to time. He and I used to trade back and forth quite a bit as I got older. I bought him that DD2 years ago. He later "stole" my Explorer 2 while he was going through cancer treatment. That was about 6 years ago. I do not lament his death. He was sick a long long time. I do however, celebrate his life and the time that I had with him. I love that we had watches to bond over. As an aside this is why I bought the home in Fla, which I have made a quick mention or two about at times on here. I want to be close to my mother and I do not want her to be alone. I am back and forth quite a bit to NJ as I cannot uproot completely. But I did become a Florida resident, and I really do prefer it there. But I am going too far into the weeds now. I just wanted to share what I think is a truly meaningful moment in any watch journey. And while I rarely get personal on the internet anymore, this was a moment of weakness and the old Seth has come out just a tiny bit.

Thank you for sharing Seth, I truly know what you went through.
I lost my dad this past fall. This was his watch. Not valuable in the monetary sense but priceless to me. I hope your mom is doing ok. Mine has had a lot of adjusting to do as we all have. Did not mean to highjack your thread in any way. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Seth, we’ve never talked, but I’ve always enjoyed your posts and remember when you bought the DD2 for you dad, just because you wanted to, and I thought what a great guy and I’m sure your dad did too.

This post reflects the true sense of: Never forget where you came from, and the folks that help you get there.
As a son, you represent everything a father whishes his child turns out to be, when he becomes a man. God bless him, and you too. |

I have my great grandfathers retirement pocket watch and my grandfathers retirement watch. Two of my most prized possessions.

Seth, feel for you my man. I know you two were close and he was a catalyst to where you ended up in business....he was your biggest fan I would imagine. I bet you miss his pat on your back moments. Its a tough tough adjustment.

That’s a great photo and sentiment! Sorry to hear your father passed, it’s a tough time! I know the feeling. Remembering his good times with you and celebrating his life is the way to go about it! I concentrate on that as well.

A poignant post, Seth. Glad you had time to share w/ your dad [& mom].
My dad is coming to the end of his life's journey soon but at 94 he continues teaching us. I'm forever grateful we've had the time to say what's needed to be said, even if those words were not really necessary because his life already confirmed his commitment to his family. dP

Not to get too emotional here guys...but each and every one of your comments have been very meaningful to me.
I did not really mourn like I thought I would. My mother has been a bit of a mess (58 years married) and I think I have just been trying to be strong for her. As my father instructed. I have had my moments, but I think for the most part, I have just been pretty numb to it. Then all the sudden, I had this urge to post the picture and tell the story. Now, as I am reading your comments and seeing your pictures, I find myself getting emotional and tearing up. I think this has been very healthy for me. And I am grateful. Thank you. Funny little story to lighten the mood: On one of his final lucid days, when it was just the two of us he says, "Seth, I have something really important that I need to talk to you about. I need you to ensure you take care of this for me". I pull up my chair really close so that no one can overhear. He continues, "I need you to ensure you never lose my phone number. It has been in the family for 60+ years, and I want it to continue on as long as possible". I said, "pop, this is what you are concerned about right now"? And he absolutely was. I laughed a bit. But, of course, promised it would be so. He and I both have 212 phone numbers that have indeed been in the family a long time. His longer than mine. But it is just funny what is important to us at the very end. Thanks again everyone.
