It’s only frowned upon if you want to suck up to your AD. There are only a few Pateks over retail these days anyway if you need a relationship to get one of those. Most of the catalog is way below retail. So just source what you want from the vendor with the best price and is reputable!

If you didn't like the Nautilus, why did you take it, other than the money play?

If it's not about the money, why don't you offer it back to your dealer at MSRP in exchange for the opportunity to get the Minute Repeater?

I’d just sell it.

Not for the money you understand, I don’t like the model. No worries PP and AD’s, I’d buy a Minute repeater with the profit.

When I got handed my 5164a the ad went from smiling to a very serious expression. She leaned in and said "if you ever want to sell it wait 5 years" I cannot remember if she said "or ill kill you" or not maybe thats me wanting to remember it more funny. Then snapped back to smiling. Later she explained that first and foremost they get in trouble and could lose their AD status if people do it

Remember this is a company that brags in its magazines how much its watches are selling for at auctions.

Their best watches sell for 50% off everywhere. 5370P, 5270P, 5320g, 5172g, etc etc

If you’re merely gifting it to a relative that is most certainly not frowned upon. If it’s some nonsense cover story they may see right through you. Someone who gifts pateks probably buys a lot of them.

Nobody cares if you lose money, what is frowned upon is the consumers who make money when they sell.

Ain’t that the truth! I tried telling a few ADs that back in 2019-2020. Why the heck didn’t you care when I was buying watches yearly and losing 30% on them from 2010-2016.

They don't care, a good percentage of their watches are flipped.

You can find dozens of fresh dated unworn pieces at the second hand dealers.

Don't worry they know its being done, they are just happy to be selling stock immediately

Here's the deal. Lets say you turn around and resell asap, then watch goes up to NY for anything (simple adjustment). It's normal for Patek to call AD and request info on sale. Particuarly if the watch watch is one of the hotter models. If some issue gets back to Switzerland then letters get written etc. Selling a new model, best be low profile.
