Been offered an interesting 1675
I've been offered an interesting 1675 for sale from 1966. Great history/paperwork, but from the pictures it looks like only the case and movement are likely to be original. Do folk ever 'restore' these examples using period-correct parts or is it never economically viable?

I probably wouldn't buy it with the idea of restoration, but if you like it as-is, there's nothing wrong with it at the right price.

Dial, hands and insert are all service parts.

Thanks it’s an “honest watch” with full original receipts and Rolex service history. Been offered it at £8000 GBP so not outrageously priced

Though I've seen similar loose service peices going for £7,000 last few months in current mkt.

not bad for as-is price, but getting period correct parts is increasingly difficult, if you're anticipating the thrill of a rebuild it might be more of a challenge and disappointment than fun.

If it is within your price range, even with the service parts, it could be a good purchase.

it's not uncommon for vintage watches like the 1675 to be restored with period-correct parts. Many collectors appreciate the history and authenticity of using original components, even if they aren't the original ones that came with the watch.

Thanks-for me having the dial and hands period-correct more so than the bezel and insert. Being a 1330xxx s/n I guess a non chapter ring Type A/B/C gilt dial would be appropriate, obviously with the small GMT hand. The dials seem to be around £4k which is quite strong money!
