What would you choose between these two options for 16570

If the budget is set and you have options for a black 16570 with a superluminova dial, solid end links and the better clasp and a Polar with a tritium dial ,hollow end links and the old clasp, but they are the same/similar condition and as a set, what would you choose and why? Thanks in advance and have a good weekend.

I would choose dial color first then find one in the best condition for my budget. I wouldn't limit myself to these two options because there are a many, many 16570's currently available.

The one in best condition especially if any Rolex service history and what you are comfortable in paying.

I’d go with the white dial myself. Which clasps are you referring to? You could always swap it out.

If you’re comfortable with hollow end links I’d go Polar

old clasp/new clasp ???

As to the 16570, I like the look of a through holes case with SEL bracelet, but it's a personal aesthetics thing, one isn't better than the other.

The Forum has gone through the trends... A few years ago the Polar was all the rage, then suddenly everyone had to have a black dial.

Condition is paramount with any used watch, although you should look for the features you want in the best condition you can find.

I've been wearing this one for the past few days.

Great pic and a lovely Explorer ll! I would also prefer solid end links, but the overall condition of the watch is the most important consideration. The bracelet and/or clasp can always be switched out.

Thank you for the input. By "old claps" I meant this one:

And the "new one" :

Gotcha. Different bracelets, not just clasps.

As mentioned, the bracelets or clasps used on this model are completely interchangeable. What is not interchangeable are the endlinks used exclusively on early through-holes cases withough slots to remove them from the later non-through hole lugs.

White with tritium polar dial without a doubt. Best combination.

I recently went through this and decided to stick with only looking at exactly the combo I wanted: Black dial, superluminova (swiss made dial), solid end links, holes case. It limited my search to only watches made between 2000 and 2003, but I knew I wouldn't be happy if I compromised on anything, especially the holes case.

- I wanted the holes case because it kept the 'tool watch' look. No holes looks too luxury watch in my eyes.
- Super lume because I previously owned an older tritium Sub and I hated not being able to read the watch in the dark. Even my 15 year old Luminox has already lost a lot of glow at night. Regular luminova (Swiss only dial) would have worked also.
- Solid end links because I wanted the bracelet to feel a bit more modern. I got a brand new 93150 bracelet for my old Sub and the endlinks still rattled.
- Black dial because I already had a white dial GMT from another brand and I just didn't wear the watch as much. I specifically wanted a white dial with a black bezel, but just didn't get along with it as I thought I would.

Ended up with this bad boy a few months ago, came with papers and luckily an RSC service a few years ago. Just wait it out and find exactly what you want in the best condition with the best papers/service history.

Great photo, Tools. And cool combo, dcorn. Both very cool versions of the Explorer 2.

I’m wondering, can this iteration of the 16570 (holes, SEL, Superluminova) be updated by Rolex with an anti-reflective crystal?

First decide on the dial color. Then answer this question. Do you want your watch to feel more vintage (tritium will age, older style bracelet, lug holes, etc) or more modern? If you answer those two questions you know what you should get.

I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) 16570 uses the same crystal used on the 5 digit date Subs, 116GMTs, 126GMTs, 36mm DJs and many others. They do obviously update it with newer and newer variants, however I think this is the latest variant B25-295-CAR-V5-C1 and it should have the AR coating. If anyone can confirm(or deny) that this is indeed the last variant and does indeed have AR coating it'd be appreciated.

I owned this watch for 10 years. I preferred then and prefer now the black dial variant so in my case I would get the black. The SEL bracelet is a big update too although I’m unsure which clasp differences you mention since they should both have the same clasp.

For me, I would hold out for a similar condition Polar with the SEL.

I'd go with SL vs. Tritium.
But in dial choice I'd find a Polar.
A s/n would be better price wise for equal condition.
