What is the watch supply like in Sydney and Melbourne ??
Hi Everyone,
I’m travelling to Sydney and Melbourne in the next couple of weeks and I wondered if it would be worth stopping at any stores ?? What’s the supply like in both areas and does anyone have any recommendations for a store to visit ? Thanks Mark |

For Rolex not great. All the ADs in Melbourne have stock showing as exhibition only and you are unlikely to get anything by just dropping in.

Just got back from Sydney yesterday…
I don’t even inquire about popular stainless models, but occasionally I’ll throw out feelers for the AK and 40mm EXPI. The good news is (as you probably know), it’s a great place to buy other brands. I looked at IWC and Tudor and with the power of the USD, I averaged about $500-1000 bucks off when you consider GST rebate. It’s like buying a brand new watch for the same price as a TRF trusted seller like new price. New Zealand was even better. I was quoted around $3700 for BBGMT when the same watch after tax in Utah would have been around $4750. |

If you're open to used/vintage, I'd recommend stopping by Vintage Watch Co in Sydney. I bought a 1973 GMT Master from them a couple years back and after currency exchange + VAT refund I got a really good deal on it.

I live in Melbourne, it has to be one of the hardest cities in the world to get a Rolex via an AD. The reason for this is twofold:
1) Australia is a small market, so the dealers don't receive huge amounts of stock; and 2) I'll word this part carefully, but there are a LOT of cashed up asians/wealthy international students/ wealthy australians who spend ridiculous amounts of money and therefore get priority over others. For example, at one Melbourne AD, I've purchased 6 watches over the last few years with a spend history of $80-85k. Despite that, I've been waiting over a year for a two tone datejust and/or a yachtmaster 40 (i.e. not hard to get watches). As a result, I got frustrated with waiting for a call that wasn't coming and I decided to go grey for my last 7 Rolex purchases. For other brands like Tudor/Omega/IWC/Panerai/JLC, Melbourne is great and well stocked. The Omega Boutique in Crown is particularly well stocked at the moment with white speedy/FOIS/Bond Seamaster/NTTD all in stock as of this weekend. |

Brit here and if I were you, I’d just enjoy these two AMAZING cities. You’re better off Rolex shopping in the uk believe it or not.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments. I think I might see if I can get an omega Speedmaster Moonwatch. I could not find the white dial version but they seem well priced

Maybe you should switch your trip to Qatar.

Melbourne is totally dud at AD's.
Yesterday an AD told me they had a Titanium YM on display. I said I would buy it now with cash...They said no its already sold. I said I would be there within the hour with cash, they said cannot. I said can I have the next one and they said there is a long waiting list. Anyway I put my name down for one!!!

Op, never been there dying to go, but I have a few mate’s over there, every time I ask the Rolex question they just laugh. I think your best bet would be HK..
