Gilt Dial Purchase

So I'm thinking of adding a gilt dial to my collection. I know this has newer hands and I think the case has had some work. I'd be curious to get opinions from some of the collectors here in the forum.

I thought I’d like that bracelet and I did not at all. I have several 4 and 5 digit subs. Wanted a riveted dial but it sucked to wear honestly. Looks cool though

You’d need to post better and bigger photos to get meaningful responses.

If you’re cool with it, you can always post the link from the seller’s site

Case and bracelet have definitely been refinished. But you are not going to find one in that shape otherwise. So, a matter of your taste.

That bracelet is in a lot better shape than the one I had. Returned mine. It looks really nice!

Too bad the hands aren’t original to the watch, but the bracelet refurbishing looks great, and if you’re gonna get the case redone, this one looks pretty great. Lovely dial.
And Enrique, the seller, was top notch when I bought from him years ago.

Looks nice, but a UV photo is a must.

I was recently ready to pull the trigger on a stunning matte dial 16660 from a very well-known seller. Tritium was guaranteed all original, but the UV told a different story, with color-matched hands.

A UV check should be mandatory. It doesn’t tell you everything, but it certainly can give good clues.

It does appear that the dial was relumed or touched up sometime before the photos were taken.

If the inside of the case and caseback are clean and aren't corroded, and the movement is fine, then could be a nice one to buy - the price seems a tad high but what 60 year old Sub isn't?

He never got back to me the seller....i have had interaction with him over the last year or two....he considers me a tire kicker.....LOL....i asked for additional pics under UV but he never got back to me. Unfortunately if you dont buy from him, even if you express interest you are a tire kicker. Oh well....He might have nice inventory on occasion but when it comes to vintage, id trust more of the collectors in this group before I would trust him.

Then take your business and hard-earned dollars elsewhere. A good seller should never ever refuse any request for any information. Way too much money at stake in vintage Rolex land.

I would be curious to know that as well....even still. The opinions on most was that the case was touched as well as the bracelet, however no mention of it in the sellers listing. I have no issue purchasing a watch that has had some restoration to it, as long as it is indicated.

I think it's generally the buyer's responsibility to know what they are looking at when it comes to vintage watches. These watches change hands, and any given seller doesn't necessarily know the history. TBH, I'm more concerned that a knowledgeable dealer should mention non-original parts, like that insert, because that's something they can identify just by looking.
