I presume you're referring to a SS Daytona. I have seen new V series at two AD's for $8935 (10 off list) and recently a LNIB M with boxes, books, tags & card for $8K. I would say $8K for a D is a fair price, but not a real deal.

I'd be particularly concerned if it came with everything except papers. Who takes care to save every piece of the kit and then loses the papers. I wonder if each of those elements came from a different watch and were all thrown together.

Considering that it's not as hard to get from a dealer as it used to be, and list is less than $2k more than you're paying (or less if ADs are really going 10 off), I'd go that route. My feeling is that if you can afford $8k for a watch, you can afford $9.5k for a watch.

Sounds as if you have established the credibility of the seller - probably the most important thing - I think the price is reasonable, but could be a tad better. Being a "D" I guess it might be coming up for a service so you will get a written validation if you service it at a RSC(this is to me when buying, just as good as having the original paper). You might be able to negotiate a bit better price though because it doesn't have papers.

Agreed. You have to always consider your ability to resell down the road and the papers will impact value and perspective buyers. One option would be get the service done at RSC and use the warranty paper as support that the watch is all original and authentic. Daytona service is slightly more that regular service.

Re: papers, I bought my 16613 grey-market and got everything but papers. The watch checked out just fine but I do agree that without papers, it'd be difficult to sell.

If it was down here in miami I would tell the guy selling me the Daytona that I will buy it but in the following conditions, Meet me at downtown on monday at 10:00 am at the Seybold Building Once there we will go to the 6th floor were my Rolex expert works and he will open this watch and inspect it for authenticity, cleaniness, acuracy, Pressure test, all of this will be done in front of us, and if it is what you say it is than it's a deal, I may go a little lower in price since he is there already see if he bites. If not, I will buy it anyway. He should have no problem going with you if he really wants to sell this watch......

You can get a newer one with box/papers for just a few more dollars.

IMHO, US$8k is a bit steep for a SS Daytona with no papers. Either knock the price down some more, or add a bit and get something newer with papers.

If its SS, I would do it. You can get papers when you have it serviced at an RSC someday...
