Foiund a Red Sub in the city and need help please

Yesterday after visiting in the city near me I walked into a store featuring a lot of Rolex. I was asking the owner if he happened to have some stuff for my 1680 white sub. He and I chatted and he asked to see my piece. He then said "I have a red submariner I'm seliing for $8000, do you want to see?"

He showed me an all original Red sub on its original bracelet. Had a lovely even, matching tritium all around, including the pearl in its faded insert. The hands were not corroded at all on their frames. The case looked nearly untouched.

I told him I have some pieces if he'd be interested in a trade and he said sure. I said I would be back on Monday. He had a guy in England interested he said but if that person doesn't move on it we could deal.

My dilemna now is I don't know what the market is now for a very vintage and clean, unmolested red sub. I have three pieces I hope he would consider and need you guys to help me. Should I attempt to try and is the red sub worth it - I have a nice 1680 white, a good 14060 A series and a 1969 Speedmaster on a new old stock original 1171 bracelet. The Rolex I own all have very good unstretched bracelets. How much more cash should I offer on top of these watches to not pay too much over his $8000 ask price? Or should I not trade the pieces at all?

It's very easy to fake red 1680 dials, so please if you can post some good, clear high resolution photos here, the experts will help to confirm originality.

$8000 is not a bad price if all is good. Is it a feet-first example? White 1680 is worth 4.5-6 or so depending on condition, etc.

Trading the 3 together should be spot on if not a little more. If your 1680 is a clean original example it should be worth $4.5 to $5k, the 14060 between $2.5-3k, and the Omega could go either way depending on whether its an Automatic or Professional; but I wouldnt throw any cash in on top personally.

In pristine condition that's not bad (better if meters first), but without pics it's hard to nail down.

I like the estimates given as to your watches. I'm not sure what I would do. Part of me says to keep the Speedmaster as that would be two iconic references.

You have 3 nice ref# watches is your white 1680 as nice as the red?
If so you would trade that plus the other 2 nice watches for just the red letters?

hmmmm be careful. Do you know this seller personally?

Give the seller a call and ask what the first three #'s of the serial are. That will help determine which style dial it should have.

My eyes opened after reading what you mean. My white is way nicer. the red is from 68 and looks beatifully vintage but rough. Its a nonhacking 1570 with original nongasket tube and crown without dots, only a coronet. It's beat too. But case is meaty and dial looks nice. Bezel is faded with wear on insert and edges. I'm being hasty or is $8000 a decent price? I will wear it daily like I do my white, but would like it more if it's rarer than my white in any useable condition. I really fell for its tattered look. Is the future on red subs not better than whites afterall?

I think in this market from what I have learned recently while considering a Red Sub myself is that 8 K is high if it is not in great shape or has box, papers, etc
