It's kind of a classic watch catalogue setup. The watch is said to "smile" with the hands like that. The date is easily visible, as is the writing on the dial (most importantly, the brand. ). It just looks symetrical. Check out some watch ads.

But with the second hand at 30 seconds, shouldn't the minute hand be in between the minute markers, not bang on the 11th minute mark.
