Future value of GMTIIc vs. YG president?

I am considering trading my GMTIIc for a non quick or quick set YG president day date. I am just looking for some opinions on which will hold it's value or appreciate! Thank for any help.

A 7,000 dollar GMT and a 25,000 dollar Day Date are light years apart......

The IIC will hold its value much better because it's steel. YG doesn't hold value well at all. The value of YG drops huge immediately after purchasing it new.

The pre-owned presidents I have been looking at are in the $8-10,000 range. A pretty decent drop from $25,000. Although they are in a different league new it seems that the steel watches tend to hold their value better (like scl6118 said) thanks for the help!

I doubt that either will appreciate by much.

While it's true that S/S models tend to hold their value better than gold, if you buy a YG President (about 20+ years old) at close to the floor price of roughly US$8,000, you'd be well hedged against future loss. So although it won't rise in value, it won't fall by much either.

As for the GMT IIc, I think you'd have a very long wait before you see any price appreciation.

Is this a SS GMT? Does the DD have a bracelet? Is it in decent shape? Today its an even money trade as you can find a decent DD non quick with bracelet between 4500-6k and the GMT is in the same range.Now let me look into my crystal ball for the future............hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I could be wrong but are the 8-10k pres the older Pre 99-00' ones? Those ere like 19k msrp in 1999 new but ya worth a lot less now. And ones that coated 25k more recently seem to run 12-15k range used.

Go with the steel GMTIIc. Holds value "naturally", scratches very little compared to soft yellow gold, will not stretch like the hollow links of the older Presidents, AND, no one will try to cut your hand off to get to it like a President.

Not to mention the GMTIIc is practical and is a workhorse that does not have to be "babied"!

The Day Date 18239 will lose its value because in the future more people will desire 118239 models just because it has more gold on it, and its band wont stretch because the links are solid. IMO I dont know why Rolex took so long to catch onto that, a watch like the Day Date, a watch that caliber, you really should have made the links solid to begin with.
As time goes on those 20 year old model 18239 Day dates will one by one have all their bands stretched, and replaced with "custom Italian" aftermarket bands, making them worth even less. If your buying a Day Date I would opt for a "new model" and spend around 15k for one, entirely stock, serviced only by Rolex. At 15k that watch wont be going down anymore and you wont lose money, the guy that bought the thing new for 25k will have already lost the money for you so you save!
