Agree Allan and I still prefer the Zenith dialled ones to the Rolex own in-house versions. And if I had to chose out of the two,it would still be the Zenith IMHO just a better looking dial.

Perhaps one should not stare blindly at the fact that the ss Daytona will at best, be bought at list, with no discount and with a waiting list of a few years. This becomes irrelevant, if one considers that the used value will be excellent. In that regard it may then be one of the best buys ....
![]() ![]() Can someone please explain/show the difference between the Zenith vs Rolex in house dials ? |

Well basically when Zenith would not or could not supply the base Elprimo ebauche to Rolex they had to make their own first ever chrono movement. Now Rolex modded the Elprimo movement by slowing it down from 36000 BPS to 28800 BPS. By fitting the Rolex balance escapement and Brequet coil and micro adjusting screws, some say the Elprimo movement was degraded. Now the Rolex in-house is excellent movement with a higher power reserve. But in accuracy term IMHO both equal, but as to reliability well the the Elprimo has proved it self well enough. Its been around since 1969,now the Rolex one just a few years in watch terms. Now Rolex in-house sub seconds at 6 o'clock Rolex Zenith sub secs at the nine o'clock

Hi,
I like the daytona , but the price & hype about it is unnecessary. I liked the Tudor chrono (pre tiger), same type with the additional of date function, bought one many years ago at a fraction of todays price. The earlier Daytonas R , L , X series are collectible, ofcourse 6263s are rare to see today. |

Paul Newman added to it's fame. Was he checking his lap time with the cosmo on his wrist as he drove around the speedway at 160mph, and if so, at that speed you can make a deadly mistake in a split second. It has those 3 smaller dials, who in the heck has the time and eyesight to actually use those functions in a pinch. It's a highly functional, expensive, and beautiful, sit in your chair, look at watch.
