My luckiest day ever

I hope all of you enjoy this story as much as I will enjoy telling it. Last week I was on a cruise to several Caribbean Islands including St. Thomas. I have been on a waiting list with my AD for a SS Daytona white face, however, he has no idea when/if one will come in. Any way, our ship pulls into port and for some strange reason it is not the same port that I have been in before. Meaning I usually enter through the main shopping area of St. Thomas, but this ship docked near Charlotte Amalie. We were told that to get to the main shopping area we needed to walk through the little shop area and take a cab. No problem. As we are walking though we notice that A.H. Riise has a Rolex store there. Somewhat smaller than the main store which I had been in on a previous trip. The store is completely empty. I walk in and see a gentleman behind the counter. I said to him with a big smile, you look lonely, so I thought you could use some Company. He says "what can I do for you today" I say you do not have what I want, he says I bet I do. I say, I want a SS Daytona white face. He says, I have one. $9780 out the door with a $50 gift certificate to his store across the way that sells liquor and other things. The lady behind the counter says we are not supposed to sell that one unless you buy another watch, however, you are the nicest customer that has walked through this door in some time. (I'm guessing I was the only customer to walk through the door in some time) I am still pinching myself!

Congrats. And, a bit "odd," in that your user name includes Lady Yachtmaster (of which I want to sell, to BUY a Daytona....). Too funny.

Good story. If I were you, I'd give my future business to another AD. The one you have is either lying to your face, or has less than zero 'pull' with Rolex. Daytonas are now being found lying in stock all over the world, (except maybe the UK ), at list or less, as you found.

I'm amazed that in this age of a crap economy, many ADs seem to think they can still treat Rolex customers like $#!t on their shoe and they will still keep coming back.

tunacan28 I was a little creative with the Yachtmaster. Had a good friend of mine trade it in for an Explorer II which saved on the tax. I was then given the money to put toward the Daytona. I probably could have sold it for more on the forum, but it just seemed to work out for everyone.

I know how exciting that must have been for you! I am sure it made your cruise that much more special! I have a similair story but yours had a much better outcome!....I went to Paradise Island in the Bahamas and stopped at the Rolex store there. This was a few years ago and low and behold they had not one BUT three SS Daytonas for $6,750 each!!!!! (as you can tell it was a few years ago!) anyways I told the sales lady that I would take all three!!! She then said "hold on a sec as I have to call our major customer to make sure he doesn't want one"...I said no problem as I knew there would at least be two left....She comes back and says " I am sorry but he wants all three SS Daytonas!!!!!!!!!!" I was SO upset I almost started to cry!!!! So after waiting for years after that I finally broke down and purchased last year for 10K....
So CONGRATS on your GREAT find!!!!

Funny because A.H. Riise had many Daytona's displayed but not the SS one. I really don't know if they are really still hard to get or dealer's are just holding them out.

Big Congrats!!! What a wonderful story and a very rewarding vacation.

They are still not falling out of trees in the US as some people seem to think. I have been on the waiting list at a few local AD's in the Mid-Atlantic US for the last few months and just got the call this week.

Enjoy your new watch, it's a beauty!!
