Rolex 1570.Help,please!
Hello,
This is my first post hear,I hope it's in the right section and that I'm not breacking any rules. Also,I would like to thank in advance for any advice or opinion. As I have decided to buy a watch on a bracelet with good WR and some style,a Rolex seems the right choice. I like this one(pics below),but I dont know many things about Rolex, and because I am not buying from AD,I can use an educated opinion. This is a 1570 caliber(actually,1575,because it hase a date). It hacks, but it doesnt have a quick set for the date,so I think it has been made between '72-'79. I know one has to look at the series engraved on the case, bracelet and movment in order to say if this is a correct watch or not,but from what it can be seen in the pictures, what is your opinion? |

Nice 1601 looks ok except for the dial thats a later replacement, great movements the 15XX series. The 1601 started life around 1965 with the cal 1575 until the introduction of the cal 3035 around 1977.Now up till 1960 Rolex used the word SWISS then the dials were Radium, from 1960 on Rolex used (T.Swiss.T) less than 277 MBq (7.5mCi) and also (Swiss <T25) less than925 MBq (25mCi) on there dials depending on how much radioactivity they had .Then they changed back too (Swiss only) with the new Luminovor dials from 1998 to 2000, then after around 2000 back to (Swiss Made) with Superluminovor till present day.

Thank you so much for your informative answer,mr.padi56.
Now I'm in a bit of a dilema, because I liked this watch and I have allready agreed on a price with the seller. However, the price was set for a watch with all the correct elements, not for one with a replaced dial. I have experience with other brands(just not with Rolex) and I know that normally,a replaced dial that it's from another period of time will affect severely the value of the watch. Is it also the case hear? Will this replaced dial be a deal breacker for you? I am grateful for any opinion on this matter,if other members of this forum have an advice,it will be welcomed. |

Well first its quite a old watch 30 years plus and yes in there life dials do get replaced at service. But a dial replacement on watches like the DJ would not effect its value. How much is the asking price, although the 15XX series are very fine and very long lasting movements.Rolex did state that some movements 30 plus years old they would not service anymore. But there are still plenty of parts for the 1570/5 world wide.Myself like a Roman dial and if price was fair then yes I would buy the watch.

Again, thank you.I feel lucky to be advised in this matter by a forum moderator, altough other members opinions would be valuable and wellcomed also.
I was concerned about the changed dial,I did not know it was acceptable for a Rolex. For other brands,a changed dial would be a serious problem and a deal breacker. The price for this watch is below 15oo euros,in USD,that is below 2k.Do you feel the price is fair?I'm not asking for an evaluation, just a personal opinion. Also,do you think the bracelet is ok? Sorry if I'm taking to much of your time,I dont have anybody else to turn for an advice and I have to take a decision in two days. |

That's a great looking dial. $2,000 is not a bad price. Often the price/value of a used DJ varies significantly based on the condition of the bracelet, as well as how recently the watch was serviced.
A 30 year old bracelet could have significant wear (in the form of stretch). The picture of the bracelet makes the bracelet look pretty good. To me, the watch is worth quite a bit more if the bracelet is in very good condition. It's easier to get the watch serviced than the bracelet. A worn Rolex bracelet can still do the job for years, but affects the price. Rolex service performed by Rolex costs about $500, so recent service should make a difference in what you pay. An older watch that hasn't been serviced for 10 years is going to need service. |

That's a great deal. I owned one exactly like yours and I miss it so much.
Will have to get one one of these days.
