4 line 5512

Hi all! Been thinking about picking up a 5512. I've seen a few on this forum as well as the bay and what not. The prices seem all over the place.

I found one that is in pretty good shape. Never been polished on a rivited bracelet for about 5k. Everything checks out so far and I can post pics later when I'm back on my puter. Oh and it's a 1.7 serial.

Sound fair so far?

Ps...its a meter first dial.

I'd say a 5512 in good shape on a rivet bracelet should go for more than $5k, so that sounds like a good deal to me.

Depending on condition that could be very good.

That would be a very good deal, especially with the original bracelet. The bezel looks a bit scratched up, and the patina on the hands doesn't match exactly, but it still looks nice. I assume it hasn't been serviced recently. Good luck!

To me it looks like a service dial. It looks like it has been polished a couple of times too.

Good deal, no matter what critics say!
And now I want one, too. And the Iphone, as well.

Ummm…I don't think it is a service dial. If someone out there knows for sure, please educate the rest of us.

The case seems okay from the initial scan. All in all, pretty good deal for 5K, esp. meters first

Great looking watch.
I don't believe service dials were made "meters first" , and font looks correct to me for a 67 which is where that serial number puts it...
Bracelet is not original to watch (I-70) but certainly style correct.
Congrats!!

To my eyes it doesn't, but I'm curious why you think so?

I have never seen a meters first with such a big font for the last 2 lines(superlative chronometer officially certified). These two lines should be in a significantly smaller font. There should also be a little more space between "submariner" and "Superlative Chronometer". I have seen several service dials, and all had a bigger font, just like this 5512

Just did some searching around and found a 1.6 mil and 1.8mil dials with very similiar font size /scale..the earlier gilt 4 line 5512's there is a much smaller font for the last 2 lines..
I think this is OK

Looks original to me, I'd buy it! Almost bought a 5512 last year, but I was out bid!

PS-- Price all over the place because there are many variances between them! Here is a 1961 PCG 4 line gilt dial meters first sub with closed chapter ring(original 1961 rivet bracelet in storage-on a 93150 now)-it is at the other end of the price spectrum. This is an interesting game--so many variances-so much to learn!! In the end--always buy the best example you can within your price range! If you can spend more--do it! If not--get best you can for the money. Again--for $5k-that is not bad at all. Cheers!! Hope that also addresses your OP.

Other end of price spectrum indeed - who would or could have known back in the 60's ... supply and demand ... rarity comes at a price (sometimes a very dear price).

SteelerFan-
How much more does a piece like yours cost? Double the 4 line 5512?
What makes it special? Rarity?
Sorry for the newbie questions.

Sorry for the newbie questions.
What I listed above makes it so rare: 4 lines, 61 fully papered including store receipt-COSC and punched papers, closed minute-chapter ring, pointed crown guards, perfect glossy gilt dial, unpolished and all original etc. etc. The difference in price-7 times--however it need not matter as it will not be sold! It is next to impossible to find one like it complete with a perfect 10 dial!!
