Rolex and Tudor =1000000 or Rolex= 1000000?
Does Rolex make A million Rolex watches a year or do they make a combo of 1million Rolex and Tudor watches per year? Does any one know the break down? Also being that Rolex prices are hitting astronomical levels do u thing that Tudor will take it's place eventually, as in more watches produced? Also will Tudor ever make in-house movements ?

The production figures for Rolex do not include Tudor.
Rolex will have continuity of the supply of ETA movements so I doubt there will be a move to in-house in the near future.

Well its still possible although at the moment they will continue to have a supply of ETA ebauche movements. And although they are not Rolex made ETA is as much in-house built as any Rolex movement.

Actually, James Dowling on Timezone just recently said: “the plans for [in-house] production were quite advanced when the deal with ETA was finally locked up & the plans were then shelved”, and I think it is fair to assume that he is well informed.
There was also rumours about Rolex purchasing Sellita, a Swiss company that has been a specialist in assembling ETA calibers for many years, and now is a producer of own calibers. Given Rolex strong execution on their insourcing strategy through the years it is reasonable to believe that they have looked into insourcing of the Tudor calibers too. In my mind there are two reasons for this not to happen at this time: 1. The marginal cost of purchasing calibers from ETA is still lower than the cost of scaling up the internal production in the Rolex facilities. 2. The fact that a Tudor with an inhouse movement (that most likely would be as good as – or even same, just rebranded – as the Rolex equivalent) would be difficult to market as a less expensive watch. The only difference then would be the brand and the look. If the Tudor brand grows profitably, given the new styles, I expect Rolex to eventually scale up the current production facilities to produce all parts needed for all their brands. Best, A |

i remembered i read somewhere that the COSC certification for last year (or the year before) was in the region of 600,000-ish, so that is quite abit shy of 1,000,000 figure.
as for ETA, i thought the Swatch Group is starting to reduce the supply to manufactures that are outside their group and eventually stop supplying full stop... hence you have the likes of Breitling and Panerai starting to make their own in-house movememts |

Thanks for all the info guys I know I would get some good response here. Some more questions though. Does anyone have a timeframe for the Tudors to come to the USA?
And secondly someone said that swatch group would not sell to brands that say it's there movement but it's really eta's, but isn't that exactly what Tudor does no were In It's website does it say it uses ETA movements. So wouldnt roles be cut off. |

No brands using ETA movements claim those movements are their own. They might designate them as certain "calibers" which could imply "in house" to the uninformed. However, these are just ETA ebauches modified by the brand. Again, since the Rolex brand makes their own in house movements and has had a longterm relationship w/ ETA, Swatch feels comfortable supplying ebauches for Tudor. dP
