USPS LOST my Rolex!!!! What now? NIGHTMARE!!!
O.k. so a guy from Los Angeles bought a submariner from me I shipped it last Thursday from a Houston U.S. Post Office. I insured it of course, thank God! Anyway I was told (by the worker) when you ship with USPS with insurance over $500 they automaticly do a signature. Well the package never got to the office it was shipped to. The report from the post office shows the package was scanned at 7:45 a.m. on the 9th and was delivered at 11:15 a.m. on the 9th. No signature comfirmation and the building the office is in is CLOSED on Saturdays. I got the number to the post office the scan came from and the guy that delivers to that route says he has no recollection of a package on Saturday and that Saturday packages are usually left behind until Monday when the building opens. Bottom line is NO ONE KNOWS A DAMN THING. They cant find it at the post office, the guy certainitly does not have it (he is freaking, he payed for it) the paperwork shows delivered but no signature and the driver who works that route claims he never saw it. I guess its time to make the insurance claim, I was waiting for the buyer to go down to the post office & the building management to check one more time and he came up with nothing.
I am wondering what the post office time frame is and when they consider something officially "lost" and process the claim. I would assume they have an investigation time frame before they pay a claim. Anyone been through this before? Any experience with getting this type of thing resolved? Thanks for any advice you guys can offer. Wes ![]() |

Man I hope it works out for you. Only advice I can give you is never ship anything important using USPS. They are not relliable for important packages. My buddy owns a mail and more store and says he refuses to ship anything expensive using USPS.Goodluck

Registered Mail. Insured. Is this the way that you shipped it?? REGISTERED is VERY important IMHO. Safest shipping option IMHO.
Good luck, and hope they find it.

If it was registered, There is NO WAY that they would just leave it without a signature. For very expensive items, I have had it be where I had to sign for it and nobody else could sign. Very safe. I have shipped MANY Rolex watches this way.

You would know if it was registered mail. It has to be taped and stamped in a very specific way.
Sometimes USPS screws up and marks packages as "delivered" prematurely. Let's hope this is the case. |

The tracking system on the other hand, is terrible for USPS. If you insured it, it will be fine. Unless you use 3rd party insurance for FEDEX or UPS, you would be out of luck even if you paid insurance from FEDEX or UPS as they don't insure watches or jewelry. Best of Luck!

i think it will turn up. quite often ( i had an experience) parcels by air mail are scanned in batches. so PO A tell PO B it is in batch 3 arriving on said date. That arrives and is scanned so it says it is there BUT BUT sometimes that parcel is not in that batch and will arrive on the next one coudl be up to a week later.

Sorry to hear about the problem with shipping. I don't know how long before USPS calls it "lost" but I would imagine there would be a wait time for sure. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!!!!!

I bought a watch a year ago that was shipped 1st class Registered USPS insured from Oregon to the Midwes US. It took 10 days and never showed up on tracking. I was in a panic, but it came. My local postmaster said the watch spent each night of the 10 in a secure location, therefore the long shipping time, but nearly 100% secure. Be patient.

I bought and sold a lot of expensive DSLR and camera lenses on other forum. I always used USPS insured and signature required service. I thought it is safe until USPS lost my package. I called so many times and spent hours to talk to different USPS workers....
It was nightmare. Good luck to you man. You really need it when this happens. |

They "lost" a Krugerrand gold coin that I sold last winter. Got to pay the insurance on that. Good luck!

Personally I only ship via USPS - especially when shipping HIGH (very high) valued items - nothing out there can even come close to the reliable service provided by USPS and the HONESTY of the U.S. postman. I strongly suggest to keep away from the private courrier/shipping sector when it involves a Rolex. What happened to Wes is unusual and rare (when you imagine the millions of packages delivered every day) Anyway the post office will provide the answers to the postal questions about delivery or pay the insured value - you got to provide a receipt for such a value. ...and NO I am not a U.S. Postal Master... ![]() |

I use USPS and never had an issue. Tracking system is worthless but it always gets to the destination. Good luck and I really hope this package turns up brother!
