First "Real" Watch: Speedmaster or Datejust

Thought this would be a great place to get some advice - saving up for my first "real" watch and I'm going back and forth between a Rolex DateJust and Omega Speedmaster.

Here's the two I'm comparing:
Ladies' Omega Speedmaster, Automatic Chronometer, Diamonds on the bezel, with the white mother of pearl dial

Datejust with white gold fluted bezel, oyster dial with diamond markers, jubilee band

I have always wanted a Rolex...but I love the sportier look of the Omega...

This will be a Christmas gift to myself if the finances work out in time, but interested in some pros / cons from this informed board - thanks in advance.

I think that if you've always wanted a Rolex you should get one. The Omega SM is a great watch if you decide to get a second. But if I were to only buy "one" it would be Rolex. Classic, timeless, elegant.

Ha, my collection is just that, speedy and DJ, but Im a bloke. I think you hit the nail on the head, do you want the sporty look or the more dressy look.

I love mine both equally but find the DJ is my go to watch, I just feel it works in more occasions. And I would say that would be even more so for a lady. And you say you always wanted a Rolex.

Both great choices, try them both on and follow your heart. You'll probably end up with both at some point. Good luck.

Personal preference. I would go with the SM if I had to choose. But I bet you get a different opinion in the Rolex sub-forum. Both are nice. You can't really make a wrong decision here.

I had a speedy, and I never really fell in love with it (and traded it off very shortly after receiving it for a Cartier). I always wanted a DJ, but always became distracted by some other watch, until recently buying a DJ I got for a good deal. I can honestly say, HANDS DOWN!, go Datejust. It's one of the most versatile watches you can buy. While a lot of people think Subs and the like are more sporty (which they are), the Datejust is no slouch, but it also looks great with a tux (or in your case, a beautiful cocktail dress).

Just my .02

Unless it's the Speedmaster Pro (the moon watch), I'd go with the datejust. Good luck

I think the Datejust is the way to go. Elegant yet sporty as well. It's never out of style.

What size datejust? 31mm?

It will look more sporty with an oyster bracelet. Dressy with the jubilee bracelet.

Also, check out the meteorite diamond dial (code 5I?).

Most likely, the Datejust will be cheaper to service versus the Speedmaster.

If I had only one watch it would be a Rolex but I see your dilemma, the SP is young and fresh looking.

If you get the Omega is your desire to get a Rolex going to go away? How long have you wanted a Rolex?

There you have it. Get the Rolex. You will always end up getting the watch you have always wanted after you get the other one so you either have to sell the other one to fund the first or end up having both. Save yourself time and money and just get the Rolex in the first place!
