New watch but don't know what it's worth

6581 montres
I just got my first Rolex watch...I'm not sure what it is worth. Does anyone know what a 6581 montres stainless steel band and gold colored bezel.

It had on the inside of the watch cover a 6585 and then it was crossed out and 6581 was typed next to it. said montres rolex sa geneva steel,

There is also scratches on glass, and hands are dark and it looks like they have the same finish of a dirty silver. should I have these two things replaced or am i making a mistake by touching anything from the original.

Need some good advice

If authentic, it may be around $600

The serial number is between the lugs, if you remove the bracelet you'd be able to see it

I will look for that tomorrow. Should I replace hands and glass on it or leave it original. Has scratches on glass and hands tarnished

Just because it's old and Rolex doesn't mean it's worth a lot of money. It also has to be a model that collectors desire.

$600 is to a wholesale buyer. $900 or $950 could be attained through ebay

The serial number is 41283. Seems to be a 1937 watch. Worth?

seems like 41xxx puts it at late '31. as for value still likely in the range that's already been given 600ish or mayhaps more of fleabay.

That watch does not look like it's from the 30s. I say that as an observation, not a compliment.

I think there may be ....

.... another digit lurking at the end of that serial number.

A 400,000 (ish) serial number would date the watch to the late 1950's.

A 6585 or 6581 reference number would also ring true for the late 1950's.

A nice era for Rolex watches IMO. Perhaps a competent watchmaker could (gently) clean up the case and crystal.
That may reveal a nicely patina'd watch that you could put back into use without any major expense

Yeah. good call Paul. "..another digit lurking" would put it in the '50s which certainly matches the look of the watch better.
